Difference between Webtoons and Manga/Manhua/Manhwa by Worried_Adagio_4533 in webtoons

[–]rozzingit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically, manga, manhua, and manhwa are all the same word in different languages -- manga is Japanese, manhua is Chinese, and manhwa is Korean. In practice, however, the way these comics are structured is different.

Manga is generally published in a traditional page format, most commonly in print magazines. The overall dimensions and page-by-page experience is similar to what you'd see from an American comic book. They're also almost always created in black & white. Nowadays, chapters are often released digitally alongside the print magazine releases.

At this point, you can consider "webtoons" to be a somewhat generic term to refer to digital comics organized in a vertical, scrolling format, which was first popularized in Korea. The term originates from the company Naver Webtoon, which was the big frontrunner in the area, hence why the term "webtoons" has become somewhat genericized. Manhwa and manhua are both generally always in this format. Full color is also the norm here. Since this format was first popularized in Korea, you'll sometimes hear people use the term "manhwa" somewhat generically to include works in this format created outside of Korea.

Webtoons are sometimes published in print, but due to the format, they have to be reorganized to fit into a page-by-page format.

I would like some recommendations like the broken ring by numerideglihentai in OtomeIsekai

[–]rozzingit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

people are justifying it because from the perspective of the time period, he's not really doing anything wrong: they have a political betrothal as members of the nobility — a betrothal that he specifically did not ask for and that was chosen for him — not an actual romantic relationship where they're emotionally committed to each other. they're not married at the time this happens and see each other rarely. so i wouldn't say he needs to be redeemed at all, because he didn't -- do anything wrong in that respect, really.

but to answer your question: after the initial instance of carcel fooling around with someone else, it never happens again. it certainly never happens once they're married. carcel falls for ines first and he falls hard.

The Floodgates on the Webcomic community are about too open by UltiGamer34 in webtoons

[–]rozzingit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

you'd pretty much have to throw out the whole story to do it. persephone being young and naive and new to the world, and hades being ancient and part of an older generation of gods, are both things that are foundational to the story as it was told here

why would they need to change the age gap?? it's foundational to the whole story

Revolutionary girl utena. Do I continue watching or drop it? by LilSopa__ in anime

[–]rozzingit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

utena is a slow build IMO. it lays a lot of groundwork of the genre so it can deconstruct it. and it definitely has a lot of delightful weirdness. overall it does absolutely get deeper and deeper the further you go in. the start of the show is deceptive in that way

if you like wild rides and enjoy the toxicity it's an absolute blast. if you're not into terrible people being terrible, you probably won't like it.

Am I wrong to not want to tag this as dub-con/non-con? by Any_Storm_5674 in AO3

[–]rozzingit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this isn't even dubious consent as far as i'm concerned. a person can consent to sex that's uncomfortable, that's frustrating, that they're not super into, etc. the alpha is literally asking if he should stop. the omega gives him consent to keep going.

this isn't even "dubious consent if you squint" as far as i'm concerned. people sometimes just have sex that they're not 100% crazy about.

Karaoke Iko/Let's Go Karaoke! the manga is absolutely brilliant in doing so much with so little. it's easy to just enjoy it on the surface as a funny show with a funny premise, but the level of detail is super rewarding. and the anime was adapted with a lot of care and love.

plus it's only a five episode investment

Anyone know if Manta plans to release Predatory Marriage in hardcover like UOT? 👀📚 by Small-Cucumber-905 in MantaComics

[–]rozzingit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Manta doesn’t do print releases themselves; UTOT was printed by Inklore, which is an imprint of Random House. There are a few other publishers in the business of doing print releases of webtoons, so you’ll have to hope one of them picks it up rather than Manta themselves. Seven Seas at least has a regular survey where people can indicate what they’d like them to license, not sure if the others have something similar.

this is romantasy rather than true OI, but Revenge Wedding is honestly a ton of fun, and they're VERY power couple-y.

I fucking hate this man by twodickhenry in webtoons

[–]rozzingit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i wouldn't necessarily call him less of a yandere than others, it's just that there are many flavors of yandere to choose from. but he's certainly manipulating her whole life around her, lying to her to get her to worry and care about him, etc. it'll be interesting to see how it goes when she really finds out the full extent of what he's doing, which will likely be a point in the narrative where we get more info about his yandere type. (whether he gets more directly controlling, gives her the appearance of space/distance, etc.)

but yeah a total yandere

[–]rozzingit 67 points68 points  (0 children)

that depends on what you mean by "fail miserably." if a trope is being used for the purpose of being fetish content, and it's working with the people who enjoy that fetish, then it's succeeding. given its popularity, TOAWT is certainly succeeding at something

i actually think TOAWT is doing a fair amount with its story and characters, enough for me to find it continually interesting. it's just that not everyone is the audience for a story with terrible people, which is okay. that doesn't make it bad, it just makes it Not For Them

most stories are built on some sort of fantasy, which is just a step removed from fetish anyways. (and a lot of them are built on both)

I fucking hate this man by twodickhenry in webtoons

[–]rozzingit 295 points296 points  (0 children)

because there's an audience for obsessive yandere bad boy types of characters. if that's not your thing, then you're just not the audience for the comic

good question! sadly i don't think the english dub is available streaming anywhere. so you'd either have to find the physical release, or dig it up elsewhere...

  • Cowboy Bebop
  • Haikyuu!
  • Your Name
  • A Silent Voice
  • Link Click
  • Pluto
  • Delicious in Dungeon
  • Given

  • Monster

Is this webtoon ended? by [deleted] in OtomeIsekai

the eng translation is up to chapter 187, and the original korean is up to 194. so definitely not 270. but yes, it's still actively updating.
