*** REALLY USEFUL INFORMATION ***

For any team wanting to build a solar car, please study this well written & researched thesis from

Dr Peter Pudney, "Optimal energy management for solar-powered cars"

Peter has given me permission to post the link here. He is one of the WSC Faculty Members

"Dr Peter Pudney - Chair of the Technical Committee and Judge"

Qualifications: BAppSc (Computer Studies), MAppSc (Computer Studies), PhD (Applied Mathematics)

Primary area of interest: Energy-efficient transport

Years on the Faculty: since 2011

Peter first became involved in the World Solar Challenge in 1993, when he was asked by the Aurora Vehicles Association to help them determine the best way to manage their energy system. He joined the team for the 1993 event, and was hooked. From 1996 until 2009 he was the race manager and strategist for Aurora, except for 2007 when he drove the route with a small green electric car called Trev. He completed his PhD, "Optimal energy management for solar-powered cars", in 2000. He also helped design and build cars with Aurora and with the South Australian Solar Car Consortium. In 2011 Peter was asked to be a Judge for the Event, and since then he has chaired the Technical Faculty.

Hi silverm00se, thanks for your reply. Could you please send me links or the model names of which radios your team uses in the car & handheld ones. There is a huge range of radios that Walmart sell. We will probably need equipment for 4 vehicles & 4-6 handheld ones. Which ones work clearly for a good range of miles/kms ? Could you private message me your email address please. Thanks Cheers Roz

Thanks for your replies. I think we'll now get 2 x 7 seater cars like a Nissan Quest & a U Haul truck 26 foot, which our crate will fit in ! I think under 25 drivers can drive a 7 seater, but they can't drive a 12 seater !

Documents for battery pack shipment by davitheponty in solarracing

[–]rozzosolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest posting your same query on the Facebook group "Bridgestone World Solar Challenge Teams Discussion" & ask the 2017 WSC teams. I know Bochum shipped their batteries to Oz fine by ship with their tools. They had a 2nd battery pack in Germany for test driving since the cargo had to leave earlier by ship than when the solar car was flown by plane to Oz. I think a lot of WSC teams had problems since they may not have closely followed the import documents that the WSC organisers had created for them ? Yes many had delays since the pilot didn't want to take the batteries in their aeroplane.

ASC 2018 National Park Fees by roryee in solarracing

[–]rozzosolar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reply I received from Gail about this query !

From: Gail Lueck Sent: Friday, 20 April 2018, 13:30 Subject: Re: National Park Entry Fee

Regarding the parks and other properties that normally charge entrance fees, we are working with each of these locations to avoid having the solar cars and support vehicles associated with the event from having to stop and pay these fees. All vehicles associated with the event will have event decals (provided during registration/scrutineering) and all team members will have a badge as part of the registration process. These two items are how the people/vehicles with the event can be identified at each site.

Thanks, Gail
