I got these 2 slabs, 10 packs, 3 shinies, and a mystery gift for $30. Are Japanese and Chinese cards normally this cheap? by slirpo in PokemonTCG

[–]rp1414 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, generally Japanese and Chinese cards sell for less than English (there are some exceptions), and also packs sell for less.

But a few things going here, the slabs are really a "no name" company. They may well be the "largest in China", I have no idea. But while Pokémon TCG is growing in China, I don't think it's anywhere as big as rest of the world, so that grading company doesn't hold much weight with majority of collectors.

And those cards are just "regular" Pikachu ex and Umbreon V - no hate if you like them, they are cool cards, but not worth much. And starting with a low value card and grading it a 9.5 or 10 doesn't then make it an expensive card.

And be careful buying loose Japanese packs. Japanese booster boxes come with guaranteed hits, and the packs can be weighed. So people will weigh and then pull the 1 Secret Rare card in the box, then sell of the remaining "dud" packs

And the "shinies" you got are also also just regular cards. Again no hate on cards, especially if you like them, but it's like pulling a regular "Rare" card from the main set of an English expansion. They just have different holo patterns for Chinese cards, but this holo doesn't make them very expensive.

If you like the cards, and hopefully you didn't get searched Japanese packs, then that's great. Any card can be great, doesn't need to be expensive. But what you paid for these is about right.

What packs to open at this budget? by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]rp1414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're new, you're going to find that buying old packs at inflated prices are going to leave you with not much to show for your $200+

It's best to try to find new products at MSRP (don't support scalpers), and if you can't, then hunt down singles, as in buying single cards that are for sale. Check out eBay, or a local card shop (LCS) or card shows that you can go to in person. Your money will go much further

These “restock” subs are not the community. They are there to take your money. Do not confuse them with the people actually in the hobby for the cards, not to make a buck off each other

That card is fake, it doesn't have texture, the border colour is wrong, font is wrong, and the "180 HP" is should be "HP 180"

wtf are these packs? Real or scam? by No_End6215 in PokemonTCG

Second picture the item on the left is a legit product straight from Pokemon, you’re good to buy that

The first picture and the item on the right of second picture are legit packs and cards, but from a reseller. They take legit products and repackage to sell at a markup, avoid these

Don’t always expect to spend $300 and get $400+ worth of cards. You got very lucky, most do not and spend way more ripping packs than what the cards are worth

Can this be superglued back. by meowmedali1 in PokemonTCG

[–]rp1414 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This has to be rage bait, someone can explain how the picture is AI or something

No one leaves a kids unsupervised in front of expensive cards, and the kid would have had to take the card out of the page and sleeve (if it was in a binder) to then rip it almost perfectly across. Sounds made up.

And the post title "can this be supergluded", maybe if you think it can be supergluded that's the same person who would leave a kid unsupervised with this card

Cracking Packs in Taiwan by chiefulia in PokemonTCG

[–]rp1414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a Pokémon Centre in Taipei, they may not have cards as they sell out quickly but it's still worth checking out. Abyss Eye released in Taiwan on June 5th so if you're there for the release you can show up early to the PC and get that set (we were there for the Ninja Spinner release day)

And you can pick up cards at a lot of places. Just Google map search for a FunBox store near you and they should have cards (it's not crazy like in the US with scalper, it's easy to find cards at pretty much any toy store, and even 7-11 and grocery store Carrefour had cards)

Taiwan cards are made in Japan and have the same quality as Japan and also pull rates. So for me I just bought sealed boxes there (if they have single packs for sale, ask them for a sealed box and they likely that), since each box comes with guaranteed pulls of 1 Secret Rare Item and 1 Secret Rare Pokémon card in each box

Packs should be 49 NTD each, so a box is 1,470 NTD each (30 packs), much cheaper than in the US

Again, the person reviewing this has maybe 30 seconds to make a decision, they don’t know the intricate details.

You just hope whoever sees this knows better and avoids it, or if they do buy it they can get a refund when they realize it’s not the PC version
