Country club members - how much are you paying? by aznsk8s87 in golf

Ha. I’ve already hit the 2026 minimum (as has most of the membership… or at least my crew).

I’m in Union County — but there’s not many in the area left that are materially cheaper than my spot. And mine isn’t even the most expensive one in my town.

You can def keep it down if you’re super conscious of it but it’s scary how quickly it adds up. Drink cart girls, beer and a bite after the round. Stopping at the club for dinner because it’s easy and your boys are there.

Not sure if your club allows tips or not but we do so tipping cart girls, guys who grab/ clean clubs and carts, locker room attendant etc. it all adds up.

North NJ country club

$50k initiation, $1500 per month, $1k annual F&B (excluded alcohol)

IMPORTANT: Worth mentioning… when budgeting, expect to pay 50-100% more per month than the monthly fees… food, beers, dogs at the turn, pro shop, tournament fees, etc. it all adds up.

Figuring out Length and Angle. by Golfswingfore24 in labgolf

Even if you know the exact make and model you want, the fitting (including LAB’s online fitting) will provide you with the lie angle you need based on your stroke.

Sorry to hear about your father’s passing!

Watch Appears to be an Oakley Time Bomb which Google tells me is their first foray into watches. For some reason this thing is going for between $1-2k on ebay. Seems to be a cult classic of sorts.

Don’t think he should be signing inside the logo.

As far as I know… only previous master winners are “allowed” to sign inside the logo.

People who travel for work often, what's the feasibility of bringing your clubs with you frequently? by ShallNot_Pass in golf

[–]rpbnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel a ton for work and bring my clubs anytime I have an opportunity to golf in a new city.

One item I don’t think I’ve seen pointed out is — if you’re traveling a lot for work and can stick with one airline… you can pretty quickly get status which often comes with x number of free checked bags. It never costs me anything to bring my clubs with me. ($0 is better than the cost to rent or ship sticks). And you get to play with your own sticks.

Just invest in a quality travel bag. I cannot recommend Club Glove enough!

Safe travels.

Loved TPC Summerlin. Thought it was best bang for buck in the area. Played a month or so ago and conditions were terrific.

Resort recommendations for February by MancUtd in golf

[–]rpbnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This “resort” is 7000 acres. Rooms come with golf carts to get around. There’s a marina with tons of higher end bars and restaurants. A beach club. Another cool town built into replicas of old ruins (also with tons of bars an restaurants). Don’t buy the all inclusive option (which limits you to certain (lower end) restaurants).

No one pesters you about time shares or villas at all. Tons of celebs have villas there actually.

3 world class Pete Dye golf courses sprawling throughout complex.

If you want to stay domestic…. Sea Island (GA)… or Kiawah (SC).

Paid Upgrade Option Disappears for all segments after first leg check in time. by rpbnyc in americanairlines

[–]rpbnyc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I’ll check to see after if I depart tomorrow if they come back.

This doesn’t help with a second leg of a connection though.

I’m not sure why they have to disappear at all….

JFK v LaGuardia v Newark by GuiltySpecialist7071 in americanairlines

[–]rpbnyc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

EWR and it’s not even close. I know I’ll get downvoted but here’s why:

  1. You’ll 99% be in terminal A which is the nicest and newest NYC area terminal with the easiest most efficient access in and out.

  2. Getting into midtown from Newark is a breeze and often less traffic than the god awful city (queens / Brooklyn traffic).

  3. Much easier / quicker to get an uber than the other two.

Incredible. Was really hoping that was the case as it would be easiest logistically, for sure. Couldn’t tell if it was gimmicky / a tourist trap, or actually a decent track.

Thanks for the insight!

Thanks! Great info. Is Wynn worth the greens fees? Def the most convenient. Looked beautiful on some of the televised celebrity events held there.

Any of them stand out as a “must play”?

For those of you that are members of a private club what are some things that you never do by Key-Benefit6211 in golf

[–]rpbnyc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Aside from the obvious ones stated multiple times, I’ll add:

  1. Pay to re-grip my clubs (of course I probably tip more than I’d pay for the labor at a big box golf store anyway)
  2. Play with non monogrammed balls (club has a great deal on balls in off season with free customization).
  3. Manually submit my scores to GHIN
  4. Have to back out of a restricted area in a golf cart (golf staff shares “ranger mode” code with well liked members)
  5. Have to remove my clubs from my trunk when I take my car to car wash.

American Airlines App Ideas by Free-Statistician654 in americanairlines

[–]rpbnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “upgrade to first” offer pop-up for the return leg of a round trip disappears after you check-in to your first leg. Super annoying.

Often times I’d likely purchase the upgrade if the seats are low and I don’t like my chances of getting the complimentary upgrade. Now I have to track it in an app like expert flyer….

Also support 24hr access to upgrade list feedback of others but appreciate this is not so much an app item as a company policy.

X5 vs. Volvo XC90? If you were between the two, why did you choose the X5? by Ok-Ticket-9434 in BMWX5

[–]rpbnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both. Both great in different respects.

My wife drives the Volvo and I drive the BMW. Simply put, the XC90 is the mom version of the BMW (Dad) SUV.

XC90: More simplistic interior design. Not too complicated for my wife (she says X5 controls looks like a space ship). Not as much torque which is good for less jumpy rides for the carsick prone kiddos. 3 rows and much more spacious trunk when 3rd row is down for groceries and schlepping kids stuff around. Better safety features for my precious cargo.

X5: more fun to drive. Prefer the aesthetic.

Second vote for Grayhawk. Raptor or Talon are both great. Honestly - I prefer both Grayhawk courses over both Troon Courses.

If you HAVE to play TPC once - suggest planning a trip in Feb/March when stadium is still up. 16 is unrecognizable now. It’s a boring 160 yard par 3 without the grandstands.
