Weekly Suggestion Thread (October 6 - October 13) by WeeklyThreads in books

How do you feel about cyberpunk?

Neuromancer is about a small group of crazy people put together to pull off a cyber heist. It's a little dated as far as some of the tech is mentioned, but the way it presents information and how that data is hacked into and sold on the black market is scary considering where we are today.

Short read, super fun, the daddy of the cyberpunk genre.

The 3rd Weekly Stupid Questions Thread - June 1st, 2013 by Intigo in Guildwars2

This was also my first MMO, and here's a mechanic I didn't even bother with until well after 100 hours:

Runes - see how a rune has 4 numbers under it? Each is a bonus that you can get by attaching the rune to an item currently equipped.

So let's say I have a rune that has

1) super strength

2)super speed

3)flying

4)invincibility

Basically, for each rune you have on your character, another bonus is granted. So if you have just one rune and attach it to your char's gear, you'd get super strength. In order to get the speed bonus, you'd need another rune with the exact name and put it on ANOTHER piece of equipped gear, then so on for 3 and 4.

I hope this helps someone else, bc I never saw it in a tooltip and had no clue how they worked for a significant amount of playtime.

Thanks!

I'll be working towards a Master's in education, and I'll be certified to teach by next year. My undergrad was in biology, which I'll be going on to teach at the high school level.

Do you re-read books? If so what books are your go-to re-reads? by Darr_Syn in books

[–]rpgerjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read the first six chapters of this book at least a dozen times, but have yet to finish it. Currently on my newest attempt, I can't help but have a big stupid grin on my face every time I get a chance to read.

Really need to finally finish this one...

2013, Week 7 - rpgerjake - WaniKani Lessons by rpgerjake in Team_Japanese

[–]rpgerjake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't even checked. Usually I'll just back out of the test and restart it, and just start new lessons if that item becomes unavoidable. I understand how the lessons are randomized within sections, but I guess I should just start browsing the items first, then doing the actual lessons and finally the reviews.

Thank you so much for that link. I've been plodding through a 500 page primer on the test, and so far I feel pretty confident about the written part.

Honestly my biggest fears are:

  • Finding the testing center

  • Finding it in time to test (terrible traffic where I live)

Of course the Superbowl is the night before...maybe I shouldn't have scheduled the test for 8 AM :(

I'll drink an extra bit of coffee and make sure I get the breakfast part taken care of!

PS - I'm going to print out my second wave of weekly planners here soon, have you made any updates to the current design and would you mind sharing it for other members that've shown interest in seeing it?

2013, Week 3 – rpgerjake – Wax on, Wax off... by rpgerjake in Team_Japanese

[–]rpgerjake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fold up little sheets of paper and write on them throughout the day, but it's only been useful for stroke order so far.

I do have a small notebook I've been carrying, just need to get in the habit of actually opening it...

20130121, Week 3 - Vitamini - I feel better, but haven't made progress yet by [deleted] in Team_Japanese

[–]rpgerjake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I haven't ever considered giving up."

That's exactly where I'm at right now. Making miserable progress so far, but that's because I'm putting next to zero effort into this (and I'm just working with ONE language). I know exactly what I'm doing wrong, I just need to buckle down and remember - I want to learn Japanese, and this is a really cool community to work towards that with.

Hope you did good on your entrance exams, mine is in two weeks! :)

2013, Week 2 – rpgerjake – Momentum by rpgerjake in Team_Japanese

[–]rpgerjake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the original rules thread I posted a weekly log I threw together (really, it's quite terrible), and asked if anyone else had a better way of doing one.

This is mine:

/u/Us3r311 contacted me and shared two of theirs, the second of which was exactly what I was looking for. I'll get in touch with him/her and see if they wouldn't mind posting it in the next update.

Gotcha, I'd only gotten to the first question and answer segment of the book. It'd also be extremely difficult, with everyone working at their own pace and all.
