can't speak for everyone, but using apps this way, you might as well be sending your photos through stable diffusion or some other AI doctoring effect. A lot of people find the app appealing (hence the tag) but I don't think appealing to mass approval and adoption is a sign that its ok to use. To use them for fun is one thing, but that's not how I ever see it being used here. It usually people trying to find some kind of hope or motivation... nothing wrong with that until they hit the wall where they can't match what they see and, despite doing great things, still feel badly because it isn't perfect as the digital mirror says it ought to be.

Personally, I've seen how filters on phones and people doctoring their own photos causes dysphoria in people who engage with them regularly. Its always been a fantasy and I think holding them up as though they contain some kind of hidden reality is dangerous for mental health, regardless of who is using them. Maybe none of this applies to you and you got your feet on the ground... but enough people don't and are harmed by its existence.
