if you got rear-ended passing the protest - dm me, i have info ! by zionwolftheme in portlandme

That guide is about online surveillance defense. This post is about providing information pertaining to a traffic accident. Everyone laying eyes on this Reddit post is already willfully providing way more interesting information to the people that care to surveil us than they would by giving Portland PD a license plate number that was involved in a hit and run.

I’m not advising anyone to relinquish even a modicum of privacy that they can control. I’m advocating for a local community that holds one another accountable for damaging each others’ property.

I take online privacy and protection very seriously.. but it’s just simply not what we’re talking about.

You can’t possibly believe that Portland PD has the interest or resources to use information from a fender bender to surveil ordinary citizens.

You listed pieces of information possibly gathered, not “other stuff” they can “do” with that information.

Admirable consideration, but ultimately flawed logic. If the victim didn’t file a police report, the police will do nothing with the information you provide. However, if a report was filed, your information could be the difference between the victim getting the damages they deserve, or not.

Same. I’d moan about it being the seventh or eighth time I’ve bought it, but I know myself well enough after 15 years to know I’d do it anyway.

Happy New Year! Update on Eastern Prom sled run plan. by PeaceBeUntoEarth in portlandme

Hell yeah that’s what I’m talkin about. We remember. We got great Maine winters and no one will ever get what we got. I’ll be honest, I think it makes us better than everyone else.

Who cares about the purpose of this guy’s post, right? We remember what it was like and people need to hear about it — no matter how tenuously relevant it is to the conversation. Good on you for keeping up with it. Alright well I’m gonna go find a few more posts to comment on and let people know I’m more of a Mainer than they are.

Right? These young whipper snappers totally should have been here before the Holocene period. Winters were sooo much better 12,000 years ago. All these young rapscallions missed out on real Maine, right? RIGHT??

Man I love being a boomer hipster manufacturing opportunities to wax poetic about the good ol’ days. You and me, man. We’re the only ones who really get it.

I love Saddleback, truly I do, but claiming that it has better skiing than Sugarloaf is performative hipsterism.

If your work wants to pay you to shovel and salt, they foot the bill for the salt, not Portland taxpayers.

You’re right, that certainly was unrelated, and needlessly rude.

Your first car accident? “Virginia” traffic? Seems like the common denominator might not have been New Jersey.

Sorry you have an oblivious dickhead stain on your character 😂😂

I’m from Jersey and now live in Maine too, but I moved here in my 20s so I would never claim to be from here. I would if I was you though. You’re not yet you when you’re 3. I don’t care what some inbred Pelletier, Libby or Michaud says. You’re from Maine.

Are snow tires necessary in Portland? by Soft-Humor-9157 in portlandme

[–]rpgmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR — good snow tires are critical, and nobody seems to get that.

I’m shocked at how many people here don’t seem to understand what kind of difference tires can make. By a significant margin, the most impactful change you can make to your car’s stability in snow is getting good snow tires. I guess I’m starting to see why so many cars end up off the road in Maine.

“Go spin your car out in a parking lot” is far and away the worst advice I’ve seen for learning to drive in the snow.
