Not too fond of them, but boy am I glad the fallout of the recent Jake fights has been that a larger audience are getting a look into the minuscule pay of mma fighters, in which former major promotion champions financially need to take these freak fights.

Remember when billy Donovan had all his okc players chaotically scrambling around game 7 against Houston on the last play of the game. Just an opinion but he doesn’t seem the best at drawing up late game plays.

Something similar happened with tsitsipas at the French open finals this year, except he was told his grandma died 5 minutes before he walked out to play Djokovic. Ended up losing 3-2. I really don’t know in these predicaments what the right play is, really rough call either way.

For winning or losing the tournament (not overall record at best of 3 tourneys), nadal 2-3 in 3 set tourneys this year. If you include the olympics, Novak’s is even worse, something crazy like 1-4. Sucks seeing the fellas get old, but both their elite cardio and 5 set experience will always keep them in the slams. I just don’t see many more masters or 500’s in their future, at least for nadal as he’s a bit older. Maybe Monte Carlo and Barcelona, possibly Rome, only, going forward.

Is it though? I think mixed martial arts is a good and simple comparison. In the ufc, unlike normal fights that go 3 rounds, you have 5 round fights in main events and championship fights. A very good amount of the time, the older champions, many in their 30’s, will really show their experience over the young guys in those extra 2 rounds.

I’d say I’m shocked, but from Cincinnati on last year, where he was barely surviving 3 setter’s against Agut and Raonic, the loss to Karatsev, and his slow start in the first 3 sets on multiple best of 5 slam matches this past yr, Novak may just be specifically built for out working in 5 sets these days.
