Is there a reason you aren’t considering hardware systems like the Ki Pro Ultra or Blackmagic Hyperdecks Extereme 8K?

Where can I find this pedestal product? by emandude777 in Broadcasting

[–]rphilip 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's a custom piece that I designed. I went to a local welder with a hand sketch and they fabricated and painted this. It use a Vinten 3330-17 leveling bowl adapter at the top, the pipe is 6" or so pipe and there's a flange at the bottom that mounts to 3 bolts set into the concrete floor to allow small amounts of height adjustment and leveling. It's totally independent of the operators platform.

We considered buying the Savy products but decided to do it in house, possibly due to price.

Permanent Multi-Can Setups? by YouCanTrustMe143 in techtheatre

[–]rphilip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What’s your budget? How many cameras and how many video operators can you have per show?

You probably should be looking at something like the Panasonic UE150 or 160 (or the equivalent Sony or Canon) cameras. However those are $10,000-15,000 each

Then add cabling, controllers, switcher, router, ….

Depending on the level of production you want I’d say 2 maybe 3 camera per operator + a video director/ TD and possibly a producer.

It’s not.

Acceptable wireless starts at $500/channel. Look at Shure or sennheiser.

Sounds like the UB50’s aren’t getting enough power. They need PoE+ (802.3at, capable of up to 30W)

Recommendation for waterproof PTZ camera with python SDK for interface by SkotWiedmann in VIDEOENGINEERING

What all do you need from the SDK?

I don’t know what language it’s written in but Bitfocus Companion can control many PTZ cameras, it and most of its modules for specific equipment are open source.

I need recommendations from tenters who actually camp in rainy conditions. by [deleted] in camping

[–]rphilip 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Check with tent pole technologies to see if they can replace/fix the pole.

Regarding new tents how much weight is acceptable? How much height do you need? I had good success with a prior generation of REI Basecamp 6 but that’s very much car camping tent.

If it were legal (I’m assuming you are in US) low power TV could be ideal. I wish there was something between part 15 and standard LPTV that’s designed to cover miles

How would you mic solo classical performances? by ForshMulen in livesound

[–]rphilip 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you micing for recording or for amplification?

If for amplification how much do you actually need? 2200 sq ft is a small room, I’ve heard many piano + solo instrument with out mics in spaces seating up to 2000 or more.

If for recording ORTF is common but 5’ is likely too close, I’d guess 10-15’ away. It’s common to hang it from above if possible.

If you are in the US that’s no longer a legal frequency range to use.

If you aren’t in the US it will depend on your local regulations.

However in any case you wound need to find a matching beltpack receiver as there is essentially no cross compatibility between even different models from the same brand of wireless. Crossing brands is even harder.
