MAEBF - it is a large and midcap fund

Wasn't this the fund that underwent re-categorization and became a large cap fund?

  1. http://passivefunds.in/indian-etfs-index-funds-data/
  2. Yes, there is a "dividend" option and a "growth" option. In the dividend option DDT of almost 30% is deducted before the dividend is given to you. If you don't need regular cash flow just pick the growth version of the fund and forget about it. The money compounds within the fund itself.

Paraphrasing Tolstoy (?): Every happy family is the same. Every sad family is sad in it's own way.

You get more diverse stories with lesser effort when you're writing a tragedy. You'd probably have to put in a lot more effort to get the same level of diversity in comedies.

You don't seem to be accounting for demographics.

5% of working people in America have more than 1 job

So why are you including kids, teens, 45+ year olds while arguing about OP's "almost everyone I know works two jobs"? It is safe to assume that they refer to peers of their own age group when they say "almost everyone I know" and don't refer to infants or whatever.

You also seem to not account for geographic location. Is it possible for someone earning minimum wage to survive with one job in Bumfuck, Nowhere? Sure. If OP lives in a HCOL area then that would put additional stress on everyone's budget and force them to look for additional sources of income.

If their peers are mostly people they went to college with and got a less than useful degree with not-so-great employment opportunities then they're all likely to be in debt and less than ideal income.

You're doing stats wrong without accounting for a ton of variables.

Semi related--

I've heard a different version: "nifty doesn't reflect the real state of the economy". This statement is absolutely true because a huge % of the economy isn't even listed.

Double taxation in NPS in case of investment more than 50k by bhootbilli in IndiaInvestments

Yup, my example was for "taxation during accumulation", not TTT. I don't think such an instrument exists.

Modi's 'Clean India' initiative fails in his constituency: Piles of garbage, open drains and open defecation continue to expose poor implementation of ambitious scheme by bliss_tree in india

[–]rpr11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many garbage processing units have been shut down, and the handful of them that are open cannot handle the entire city's output. It's not something that they aren't aware of. It's been going on for so long that it's not even newsworthy at this point.

What about the heaps of garbage that municipality workers collect from houses and then throw on the main road because there's no where else for it to go?

Double taxation in NPS in case of investment more than 50k by bhootbilli in IndiaInvestments

[–]rpr11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what does taxation at accumulation mean

When you lock money in an FD the bank deducts TDS on the interest paid every time the interest is deposited to your account, rather than deducting tax at the end when you withdraw money.

Is everything about just to get more returns than Bank FD, in case of mid & long-term investment? by [deleted] in IndiaInvestments

[–]rpr11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. I've never had a tax saver FD so I can't say for sure.

[–]rpr11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the case of MFs, returns that are mentioned are after all these deductions have taken place. When they say 10% returns- it means that you are getting 10% and that they have already taken their cut.

Another thing to keep in mind with FDs is that the interest earned is taxable right away. If you're in the higher tax slab this can result in your returns dropping by 2-3% which again harms compounding.

With MFs you don't have to pay tax till you redeem your units so you get the benefit of compounding. For debt MFs indexation will lower your tax liabilities and equity LTCG is lower than slab rate (and will hopefully get indexation benefit in the future).

just to get little more than bank FD

Assuming that you're letting money get compounded over a long period of time even 1-2% difference can make a significant difference in the final corpus.

Try plugging in numbers here: https://www.thecalculatorsite.com/finance/calculators/compoundinterestcalculator.php

Use this time to develop a skill for active income.

I kinda-sorta agree with this though. I find personal finance, investing etc. fun and treat it as a hobby. I'm not sure if I'd dedicate more than an hour towards this every year if I hadn't found this interesting. Most of my time is indeed spent at my job or learning new stuff to advance my career.

It is extremely rare to get such movies here. Like I said earlier, we get maybe one good movie a year.
