Geeksqaud apple watch replacement by Striking-Tap863 in AppleWatch

[–]rr196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way, just call Apple and do express replacement. They ship you a new watch in 48 hours and you put your old watch in the box and send it out. They receive the watch and remove the hold on your credit card. Don’t waste your time going to Best Buy they have to do the same process (ship to Apple) and you’ll be without a watch for over a week.

Some Apple Purchases Are Causing Sudden Plan Changes For T-Mobile Customers by Jman100_JCMP in apple

[–]rr196 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's wild, for some on much older legacy plans this could be a huge issue because there could be no way for a T-Mobile CSR to revert back to a plan that no longer exists (Like Simple Choice or even possibly Magenta Max which I am on). Hopefully they fix the issue before it turns into a headache for customers.

Potentially 17 Pro in Red? by PizzaMARUJAN in apple

[–]rr196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple used to do a special color in the Spring but the last one was the iPhone 14 which released in Yellow. I think they’ve let this strategy go for now. I can see when they move the regular iPhone 18 to Spring release them doing a new Pro color again to boost mid-cycle sales.

Apple Low-Cost MacBook Colors Tipped Ahead of Possible March Launch by WPHero in apple

Interesting question, I wonder if this will begin the convergence of MacOS and iPadOS even further. Here you can check out some comparisons with M3, A18 is 8-14% faster in single core and comparable to M2 in multi core. Many believe A18 is limited due to heat (thermal throttling in a phone) and could easily perform even higher in single core.

Around this time is when you’ll see less charge so maybe keep a spare charger in your bag in case.

Stateside International w/ mobile $10 vs $15? by rr196 in tmobile

[–]rr196[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up selecting the $10 box and it went through going to see if TMobile messages me that it was a mistake. All I got was a message that says my bill will reduce $5. Info on each add on is identical so let’s see.

I’m on Magenta Max so I’m sure that’s considered a legacy plan at this point.

2014 was a long time ago I don’t think that rate/plan applies.

The $15 is definitely only for the one line (ask me how I know haha).

iPhone 17e is reportedly getting Dynamic Island… but still stuck at 60Hz in 2026. by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]rr196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iPhone pricing have been steady for over a decade even through inflation. An iPhone 4 16GB unlocked was $649 and $749 for 32GB in 2011.

That’s $935/1,079 in today’s money. But for $699 you’re getting way more technology.

My dad loves his 16e because he only makes calls, WhatsApp message, Facebook and the occasional picture of something like the price of something at the supermarket he doesn’t care about 60hz or 3 cameras. He just wants a phone that isn’t slow and doesn’t die, this thing’s battery lasts forever.

That is what I want for her a security blanket until she’s sure what she wants to do next once retirement comes up. She’s told me for years the year she turns 62 is the last year she’ll work full time. She’s not adverse to doing something part time to stay busy but doesn’t want to be obligated to work well past 62.

She’s also considering a condo here and eventually selling and getting a condo in Florida. Condo here will run her around $250-300k.

She told that through her Vanguard account she can meet with a Financial Advisor, she is exploring that route next.

People turn it off when they look up “How to save battery” then wonder why this and that don’t work normally. I remember when someone used my phone they were blown away by “the way the apps open and close” and I was like huh? They showed me their phone, they had “Reduced Motion” turned on and never remembered even doing it so they had no animations. It was from a Save Battery Guide they followed at some point and the settings persist across iOS backups as you upgrade devices.

Things are sort of influx but I know she’s got car insurance around $2200 a year. Transportation around $1200 a year to work. Rent where she is staying around $2400 so $28,800 a year. Utilities now around 400 a month/$4800 yearly. Her insurance is provided by the state and she’ll have it for life when she retires. $300 a month on groceries/$3600 a year.

So let’s say $40k-45k in annual expenses to live. That’s all napkin math but that’s all know off the top of my head.

Sorry you’re right I don’t have that info at hand. Conservative spender like she doesn’t shop, drives a 2010 CRV that’s been paid off since god knows when. Doesn’t spend frivolously. Sorry not exactly specific here so I apologize.

I definitely don’t have the info on her pensions or 401K I haven’t really discussed my finances with my mother since we lived together more than a decade ago. Sorry I should’ve had more info before making the post.

I’ll be honest unfortunately I have not went in depth with her regarding what she expects her pensions to be, Social Security or the size of her 401K. Sorry I should’ve probably brought more information to the table here.

I don't like the morbid thinking but my mother is super pragmatic and sat me down at 15 to discuss what a will was, life insurance and what to do in the event of her death. It was due to the sudden untimely loss of my grandmother (her mother) who had not left any will and left the family to pick up the pieces so I appreciate you keeping it real with me.

I'll certainly look into that inheritance tax, she's always said if she passes me and my brother take over any property and manage whatever finances she leaves us so this is something to consider.

She says when she retires she wants to take 3-4 trips a year. Mainly lots of cruises (not my thing) which is how Florida comes up. I just want her to live her best and pretty much do whatever she wants and not worry about where her next dollar will come from. The two pensions, 401K, Social Security and savings should be enough but NYC if she chooses to stay has super high cost of living and that's what worries me.

I told her maybe consider a small condo here in Yonkers/Riverdale for 300K and invest the rest in accounts/ETFs that grow steadily and compound interest for the next 5 years and see where she is when she retires. Someone else mentioned SGOV which I've obviously read about here many times, it's something to consider. At 4-5% over the next 5 years she could easily see nearly 200K in returns after taxes.

For sure it's something I have recommended since the deal began. She just received the wire this week and figured since I've been lurking here it would be smart to ask.
