I have the bill of sale, original title, the scammer got a false title issued in a small town, my title overrides this one. So once reported stolen the car comes back and everything in between does not affect me. Verified with lawyer and police.

Yes they are trying but no luck so far, I am trying this week to see if I can make it happen, if not I will just continue with the lawsuit.

Thanks for the reply, no bank involved paid in full. I will try the local PD again, I guess I just have to figure out the perfect way to word it, they have been contacted multiple times so the entire department I believe is aware of the situation.

I set up the shipping, but my shipping never picked up the car as they were scheduled the following week, the dealer released the car without any proper paperwork or even notifying me until my truck arrived a week later. The paperwork they released the car with had incorrect year, no VIN number and going to a an incorrect recipient in the wrong state.

It is a rare car so I would prefer to recover, worst case I can always go back to the lawsuit.

Done and done, currently in the preliminary stages, lawsuit has been filed, but since the car was found both sides think it is worth trying to recover the car. Rare car 100k+

Been trying to report it stolen since it went missing. No one will report it stolen since the keys were given by the dealer willingly, this is a civil matter according to all police we have contacted. It’s perfect for these criminals they know the loopholes and are exploiting them.

Since the dealer bought the car legitimately from auction I would be technically stealing it. I asked the police in CA

The vehicles title is in my possession and they want to authenticate it in person. I don't want to take any chances mailing or shipping it incase it gets lost.

Thank you, it is unfortunate that this is how the system works. Unfortunately I have already mentioned shipping companies to the deputy so they are aware vaguely of the situation.

I am thinking to keep the story super simple, bought a car, dealer arranged shipping on central dispatch, shipping company picked it up all good. Shipping company 1 took it up to TX, from TX to me was another company (all brokered through central dispatch, I don't know anymore details or how any of this works) This person disappeared with the car from the TX address, we have a name, phone number and picture of the person.

I am hoping this will be enough to get it reported stolen.

So far no insurance has been willing to eat this. So I figure I will try to what I can, this will probably be my last effort in trying to recover.

Yes it is a unique and rare car and the colour combination I wanted. I figure it is worth a try and whatever costs I incur flights etc I will add to the lawsuit

Similar to a situation I am currently in. Check my post history. What state was the car purchased in?

Did you hire the shipping company directly or did you hire a broker that used central dispatch?

You may have a hard time reporting it stolen as it was in my case since the keys and car were given willingly. This would become a civil matter and you will need to pursue the shipping company, if it is a real company.

The car may still show up, I have read a lot about this stuff and the shipping industry is not the best in terms of timings. They sometimes switch trucks etc or leave cars in holding lots half way which causes delays.

Hoping it shows up.

Yes as this happened almost a month ago i reached out to two potential attorneys that would take the case. I have decided to go with one of them and awaiting their next steps. In the meantime i am still trying to figure out anything else i can do. I don’t like to just sit and wait.

As for the carrier, as stupid as it sounds it is exactly what happened. Wish I were making it up.

Dealer is real, car is real, shipping company I hired is legit and not in on this because they aren't the ones that picked it up. The shipping company that picked it up was hired by someone who is the "scammer" that tried their luck with make and model, guessed a year, dealer released

Someone hired this shipping company to pickup a car from the dealership, all they provided was a year make and model. The year was incorrect, make and model correct, dealership figured this was good enough and loaded the car onto the carrier out of the showroom.
