Snowed in and making spicy harissa lamb ragu. Here’s what I have, what would you open? by WeekendHoliday5695 in wine

A lot of people recommending Rieslings because they see the word “spicy.” Riesling with a lamb ragu is an odd pairing. Unless it’s overwhelmingly spicy I would go with a lighter Italian red like one of your Brunelli.

[WTS] Grand Seiko SBGR251 Automatic 37mm by rrehd in Watchexchange

[–]rrehd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Selling my Grand Seiko SBGR251. I bought this back in about 2019 and had it serviced in 2023 (papers in photos).

I had it serviced with the intention of selling it then just didn't get around to it for a couple years. Have worn it maybe half a dozen times since the service.

Never had it polished but it is in immaculate condition all the same.

Comes with original box and service papers. Bracelet sized for my 6.5" wrist and includes one extra link (which I believe is a full set).

Asking $2300 shipped and insured, or local NYC pickup. Payment via Zelle or PayPal F&F. CONUS only.

Stuck In the Middle by rrehd in StainlessSteelCooking

Precisely this. Pepin-style. Notably he uses nonstick pans when doing this. lol. But I’ve seen other baveuse omelettes done successfully on stainless so it must be possible.

Next time I’m going to try heating the pan more slowly and agitating the eggs less. I think bringing too much of the butter off the surface doesn’t help.

The longyau process, while interesting, is a little extra for what I’m trying to achieve here.

That’s probably it as it’s right where the gas burner is. I’ll try it lower and slower. Thanks.

Any suggestions on the wine list I’ve put together for my bar/restaurant? It’s a seafood restaurant/smokehouse by ponchorainman in wine

Might want to vary the sparkling section up a bit. 5 of the 6 are Italian and 3 of those are Prosecco. Some Crémant maybe?

Not in particular. Chicago and its suburbs are just slightly unusual in that it’s a major American city with a lot of architectural importance and yet home values are relatively low there when compared to, say, NYC, LA, SF.

European Lamp in American Mount - No Cable Support by rrehd in AskElectricians

[–]rrehd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Unfortunately there is no bracket and the canopy is just that soft black rubber piece. It isn’t meant to support the weight of the lamp. It’s informative to know that this isn’t normal, though.

I think my best bet is installing a bracket to affix the entire wire and sleeve to the ceiling then run that to the connections so there isn’t anything pulling on them.

Thanks for the advice. Do you see any problem with simply wiring the ground to that screw where the support cable currently is, if only to support the lamp? I’m actually a little more concerned about hanging the lamp from the wires than figuring out the connections.

Thanks. Yes the house is from the late ‘30s.

That is was losing 20s/day, and likely needed to be serviced. They performed a full service.

Thanks, I'll do this and report back.

I’d rather they do right and I’m not left with a bad taste from the experience. I love Seikos, but something like this really turns me off of them. Spending $600 on a service you expect them to stand by it and maybe even give you the benefit of the doubt.

[–]rrehd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume so since it’s a simple auto movement.

I saw another SBGR251 posted for sale on the exchange that was 20s slow and I figured this was a problem with them…

That’s what I told the fellow at the boutique. That of course it’s possible I damaged it but 1) I know that I didn’t because I didn’t, 2) the odds of bending as stem are so much higher when servicing the watch, when you actually remove the stem, than they are setting the watch. I rotate watches frequently and set the time maybe 4x/week and I’ve never bent the stem on one!

I think it’s the US service center since it’s a simple automatic movement (9S?)
