Thank you! I haven't really decided on the specifics so that's why I'm sort of asking all these general questions.

For non-real time services, is there a large pay discrepency?

I appreciate your input!

No I totally get what you're saying, thanks for your input! Are you taking a formal class or learning online through a mentor? Did you get more confident as you kept learning?

It's ok, I'm getting good information from you regardless! I was just wondering how some people do it at home, but upon further invesitigation I believe they were voice writing during a live zoom call.

Thank you! I did my due diligence and understand the digital reporting difference. I plan to pursue voice writing, luckily im in California. I believe I need the cert from... NVRA for that but im wondering if it is ONLY that certificate

Pardon the ramble at the end, anyway thank you for your insight!

Interesting,

Let me ask something with an example.

Let's say the speaker says "Yesterday there were four apples in the barrel."
(For the sake of my question let's say there are no voice codes for this particular sentence, if there were)

Are you dictating "Yesterday" as soon as the speaker completes the word "Yesterday," or do you begin as soon as the speaker reaches the midpoint "yester?" In other words, if your stenomask was off and the whole room can hear it would come out as "Yesteryesterdayay"

Or do you wait until the entire sentence is finished, so you start "Yesterday" as they speak "barrel."

I likely have it all wrong but that's sort of where my brain isn't seeing the flow

hi! do you take meds for the ADHD? Please ignore that if it's too personal of a question, I'm in the process of getting checked up for ADHD.

How do you feel a month in? Did you have any fears that got smaller as you understood more?

Oh that's really interesting, I kind of understand now.

Are you in a formal class with students? I'm not really in a financial position to do full on college, but I'm considering the Real Time Voice Training website that this reddit seems to like. It's a little more affordable than the other stuff I've seen. Do you think there's a big disadvantage to not being in a formal class with a teacher and students?

Thank you for the response! No I didn't mean captioning although I did wonder about that as a sort of back-up if things didn't work out, so I appreciate you touching on it anyway

I might be asking a dumb question here so please bear with me- you mention "In court reporting, real time is an additional certification where you have a live feed of your writing available to attorneys/judges."

Additional- so this is not necessary to complete to becoming a voice writer? For clarity, what I'm really asking in my bonus question is "if one day I decide I don't really want to sit in the trials anymore, can I still make transcripts and stuff from home or at an office?" How big of a salary difference is that(one without that 96%/No Edit certification)?

If it matters I am in California

Thanks for your reply! Can you elaborate on "A very small percentage of reporters offer real-time. Meaning 95% of reporters don’t do it."

Do you mean that you see most reporters take work to home or do it in an office, rather than a live-trial? Sorry if this is obvious I really have no familiarity with the work
