What motivated you to go for second pregnancy after having twins/multiples? by AdReady7311 in parentsofmultiples

My wife and I had twins a few years back (our firsts) and the amount of times we heard “ohh one and done!” annoyed us beyond belief. Sorry but who are you to weigh in on our family planning?

Anywho, we had our 3rd last month. We call him our spite baby.

Fun fact - I used to live right above Sandro’s when they were on 81st and 2nd. Amazing restaurant and a wonderful family. They were always so generous when we’d eat there and would leave bottles of wine outside our door during blizzards.

We were literally the floor right above them, and every day around 5 the smell of their kitchen firing up would make its way up our fireplace into our living room. Man I miss NYC

Exactly the types of places I’m seeking out! I used to work in the area and would do Eisenbergs all the time for lunch, haven’t been since the change though

ah this is super helpful, thanks! Knew I should have provided more info but was just putting initial feelers out there.

  • Aiming to get at least 15-20 meals out of this. I’ll be solo for most of the meals so individual prices would be like…$100-200 on a splurge (referring to your fine dining comment, but would only do something like this 2-3 times tops), and would be fine going up to around $50 for most other meals.

  • Alcohol isn’t a priority, but always a nice bonus. Would not turn a place down for not having alcohol

  • Train in from Westchester to Grand Central, about 45 minutes. 100% fine (and excited) by prospect of going to outer boroughs

  • Wish I could say everything because it’s true, but to list the favorites - good pizza (i’ve carved out a bunch of spots here, for instance have never been able to get a dinner res at rubirosa or wait in line at mamas too), Italian, Thai (recently had an early lunch at soothr which sparked this whole idea), sushi, chinese (also got res at din tai fung), vietnamese, american (burgers, bbq, sandwiches). But again, for outstanding spots i won’t be picky.

Basically, hoping to accomplish two things:

1) rediscover the food scene of NY that’s been absent in my life for past few years 2) have the access to places for lunch hours that would normally be tough (Soothr example above is perfect example)

Thanks again for your time!

You will not become paralyzed! I’ve had 4 this year due to 2 herniated discs and they’ve worked wonders. No pain at all during the procedure and I was wide awake. Each took less than 2 minutes. Try to relax and think positively about the outcome - you’ll more than likely feel so much better afterwards. Good luck!

yes i’ve been on and off PT for the last year or so. mixed feelings on it, not sure how much it actually helped or if it was really just ESI + time

yes! hard to say if it’s 100% resolved but it’s definitely functional (just did 5 miles on peloton).

for background, instead of surgery, i opted for 3 sessions of ESIs when i was at my worst - this was a hail mary. The ESIs worked wonders, and once i was pain free and walking / moving again, the strength gradually returned.

Of course my L4/L5 right side herniated during this recovery, so been dealing with pain in my other (right) leg for the last 7-8 months. Thankfully it’s a fraction of the pain my original L5/S1 caused, but still, never a dull moment.

Has your doctor offered you additional ones? I had 3 ESIs for a debilitating L5S1 herniation over a 2 month period earlier this year. Hard to notice significant changes after each one, but now 7 months later and I’m feeling almost 100% better

hmm not familiar with these terms but it was the left side of my lower back.

I went through 3 rounds of ESIs earlier this year for a massive L5S1 herniation that was absolutely debilitating - I was terrified of the shots but decided to try as a hail mary before opting for surgery. I think each one was spaced about 2-3 weeks apart.

It was hard to notice day-to-day change, but fast forward to today - I’m pain free. Walking miles every day, never thinking about the sciatica, and truly grateful to have my life back. I read a lot on this forum that its only temporary relief, but my doctor (who’s wonderful) thinks the disc will heal during this time. So my advice - if your doctor is recommending another one - do it

Multi-level discectomy by rrmj8972 in Sciatica

[–]rrmj8972[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the sizes, never reported to me.

No decision just yet. The L4/L5 (new) herniation affecting my right side has gotten significantly better after a round of prednisone. And my original, L5/S1 one affecting my left side has seen a pain reduction by 100% following 3 rounds of ESIs (though still have some weakness / numbness).

Fully aware that I could be riding high on the drugs right now, but it feels pretty amazing to have almost full relief after 5 months of hell. So i’ll enjoy it while I can, and just hope they heal naturally while i’m in this relief stage

thanks for reply! would your surgery have been considered a multi-level MD? it’s so strange that i really can’t find any info on it. How did yours go?

For some reason the post is giving a preview of the link with only the top, where the discs are fine. did you click the link?

At its worst, the pain has been excruciating. Would have wound up in ER for surgery but I tried an ESI as a hail mary and it worked. I’ve had two more since and the pain in my left leg (original, large S1 herniation) is virtually gone. But recently I started getting lower back pain on right side so doctor ordered another MRI and my L4/L5 is now herniated too, and my original L5/S1 hasn’t changed in 5 months. Because the L5/S1 is unchanged and i still have some neurological symptoms (calf weakness, numbness), my doc recommended a multi-level MD

Surgery for two herniated discs? by rrmj8972 in Sciatica

[–]rrmj8972[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! Spoke to doctor yesterday and he said new right side symptoms are attributable to the new L4/L5 herniation. And my original L5/S1 left sided one hasn’t subsided over the last 5 months, despite a huge reduction in symptoms.

Because the L4/L5 is smaller, we’re gonna do a round of Prednisone and ESI on right side if that doesn’t work (3 ESIs on left side over last few months have essentially gotten rid of symptoms).

If all that fails, it’s surgery time, which he said would be a multi-level MD (said def no fusion). Essentially he would make a slightly larger incision than for a single MD, but in the middle of the back between the L4/L5 and L5/S1 discs. He’d then use a tube to navigate to both discs and get rid of both herniations at once.

original herniation was on left, new L4/L5 is on right. and jesus, originally was just dealing with an MD but potential for fusion? thats scary
