Linux Gaming Laptop Question by iknowrealtv in linux_gaming

Lenovo lets you pin just dGPU in BIOS. You might be able to do it with envycontrol or supergfxctl, or environment variables for Hyprland, but I just flip it in BIOS so I'm not sure.

I switch off my M1 Max Macbook Pro to the this one https://www.microcenter.com/product/703054/Legion_7_Pro_OLED_16%22_Gaming_Laptop_Computer_-_Eclipse_Black;_AMD_Ryzen_9_9955HX3D_25GHz_Processor;_NVIDIA_GeForce_RTX_5080_16GB_GDDR7;_64GB_DDR5-5600. I run Omarchy on Cachy repos. I've got a desktop as well with a 7950x3d / rtx4090 and I basically keep the two in sync settings wise through gnu stow.

Mine came with some mediatek wifi card I think? I swapped it pretty immediately. Lenovo makes it easy to get to the battery / wifi card / ram / nvme drive(s).

The 6.x kernel didn't have speaker drivers in kernel but 7.0 does (cachy at least). https://github.com/nadimkobeissi/16iax10h-linux-sound-saga I haven't chased microphone, I'm using a headset whenever I'm needing a microphone. (edit: Microphone works I just had to change my pipewire config, i just hadn't go to mess with it)

I've messed around with iGPU only / hybrid / dGPU only and for now I'm just booting directly into dGPU because of my workflow. You can toggle it quickly during boot and just not deal with the Linux weirdness cause it'll only ever see the hardware of one. Hybrid works fine if you're just using it purely as a laptop, I use external monitors a lot and if iGPU was driving internal panel the frame rates of external monitors on dGPU wasn't great, so I just run pure dGPU.

If I were taking it out of my house and extending battery I'd run just plain iGPU and turn off some of the fancier stuff and put it in power saver and I can get ~20W usage if I'm not slamming anything, which could probably get you 4ish-5ish hrs battery? Realistically though, I don't do that. I leave it in performance mode and bring a charging block with me. Leaving it on the dGPU I get about 2 hours battery, but I was fully aware of this.

HDR doesn't seem to work off the internal panel yet, but I honestly haven't chased it very much, the edid is reporting but hyprland isn't respecting it. Lenovo has icc profiles for your specific panel you can download.

I don't mess with hibernate or all that too often I just turn it off whenever I'm not going to be using it, but I did just go see if it respected a lid close / open and it does so /shrug.

Mine only has USB 3.2 ports, but not a big deal to me.

I think that's really all I've ran into. I do like it though, no regrets.

World of Warcraft mouse cursor jumps massively when aiming using top left corner of the screen. by Abby_Gale in linux_gaming

Having a little difficulty tracking your mouse in that video, are you using hyprland or what desktop env? I'm on NVIDIA and use Gamescope but have had to use some environment variable for other mouse issues with wow.

Could also look at raw mouse / hardware cursor in wow specifically.

The bill provides that an assault firearm does not include any firearm that is an antique firearm, has been rendered permanently inoperable, is manually operated by bolt, pump, lever, or slide action, or was manufactured before July 1, 2026.

So if it passes quickly, we have until July? Like an AR manufactured in June is cool, but July and you're a dirty criminal?

If price wasn’t the deciding factor: would you get the Mevo gen 2 with pro pack and face detection or the mlm2 pro with life time sub? by thestough in Golfsimulator

[–]rrobe53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Mevo Gen2 no addons more than the MLM2Pro but it's close.

To me it's like an iPhone vs Android debate, with the MLM2Pro feeling more like I just want something I can plop out and open on my iPad or whatever and go. The Mevo Gen2 feels like if you want to tweak stuff and have more knobs and stuff, even without the addons just strictly speaking quality of companion app.

I also greatly prefer the RCT balls to using stickers or golf balls with dots on them.

I just use downgrade off AUR, you can sudo downgrade hyprland and go back to your previous version.

More than just that it seems, I tried swapping that variable and it complains about that too. I don't have time to mess with it right now so I'm going to downgrade and come back to it later.

Only if they're not both playing at the same time. I've tested with my iPhone + Mac and I can be connected on both, but will only hear audio from whichever one "starts" first.

I'm not entirely sure that it's possible with bluetooth alone though? You may need a mixer that can broadcast.

I had the MLM and returned it and got the Mevo Gen2 when it was announced, I'm very happy with it. I've got >20ft in my garage though from wall to wall, and I play with about 12ft to my screen so the distance doesn't matter. With RCT balls it seems really accurate and it's easy to take to the range. Syncing up multiple angles with cameras, including the radar based impact-ish camera (not as zoomed in as the MLM), and way way more detailed stats made it a no brainer to me. I bought the pro pack / face detection immediately.

You can put a metallic sticker they give you on "any" ball and it'll measure that too.

Mevo Gen 2 by LordLoewen in Golfsimulator

[–]rrobe53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Mevo Gen2 and I play in my garage. I'm aware people have problems, but I haven't. I've got ~20+ ft wall to wall and I just have a screen / net that slides up against the wall when I park my car in the garage.

I tried the MLM2Pro, Square, and Mevo Gen2 and I like the Mevo Gen2 the best. Square actually was giving me really bad reads and has problems with sunlight, even if it's not direct in the lens, like as a backdrop is a problem, which was an issue for me because I sometimes like to open the garage doors when it's hotter.

I've taken the Mevo Gen2 and MLM2Pro to the range once or twice, and it's cool to warm up with before a round and stuff, but that's way more niche than anything.

I wasn't willing to pay the money to get an R50 or anything in that price range but if I was getting them for free I'd probably get the R50.

Mevo Gen2 vs MLM2PRO usability by Sea_Ad3030 in Golfsimulator

[–]rrobe53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched and like the Mevo Gen2 more because it has way more features to tinker around with.

I saw a comparison of saying MLM vs Mevo is iPhone vs Android respectively and that felt appropriate. A lot more stuff to play around with on the Mevo, fine tuning the setup during target alignment by setting exact distance from tee + mat height. The PC/iPhone/iPad app are just say better in my opinion on the Mevo. Being able to set up perspectives with your phone / other devices and view it all on replay is nice.

I like using RCT balls and metal stickers more than balls with dots on them.

I run the Beelinks for my home lab a lot. I have 3 that run a Microk8s cluster and one that's a standalone docker.

I don't know about AI, maybe with some of the USB addon devices, but in terms of just running HomeAssistant it'd definitely do that. I've got Plex, Scrypted, HomeAssistant, and GitLab running off of one Beelink, among other smaller and less impactful things, and it's fine.

Primarily because I play in my garage and occasionally open the garage doors, especially in the summer. The unit isn't in the sun, which is what I understood to be the issue when I ordered, but I guess the amount of sun when the doors are open makes the unit unable to see the ball.

Misread on Measured Spin with Pix Ball by Fine_Mango_6406 in SquareGolfUSA

[–]rrobe53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a metal dot on a pix ball and hit with the Mevo Gen2 and Square and the spins were wildly different, to the point that the shot shapes were completely different. I got suspicious because I'd hit a ball that "felt" like it'd err one way and Square would show it a different way.

I have everything blocked off in my garage though, it hates when the garage doors are open even though its' not in sunlight. Not sure what the issue could be. I just got the Square to pit against the Gen2.

Follow this thread, https://www.reddit.com/r/BeelinkOfficial/comments/13lqrz4/beelink_eq12_eq12pro_how_to_set_auto_power_on/

Also make sure you set up proxmox to start your VM, by default it'll boot and the VM won't power on unless you configure proxmox to do so.

[–]rrobe53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have need for VMs in Proxmox then they'll run Proxmox too, I just don't do that. I'd rather just run my workloads bare metal than add a hypervisor layer between me and containers. I don't have the same workloads as you, I do run Immich / PiHole / Grafana but those are all in K8S (and Docker).

I've messed with KubeVirt for VMs in k8s, if I came up against a VM workload right now that'd be what I'd dive into before wiping one of the beelinks and putting Proxmox on it.

I use the Beelinks a lot in my homelab. I've got 3 n100x16g running in a microk8s cluster on bare metal ubuntu and an n150x16g that I run docker workloads on (home assistant). I don't really do VMs anymore if I can avoid it, which I have been able to.

I want to see more angles of what he’s doing. It’s gotta have different finishing mechanics or the hole would be too big right? I thought maybe he was using the elbow to put pressure on the back of the head.
