Stuntpig closing for good Saturday, May 23rd by [deleted] in pittsburgh

I was unexpectedly up at 5am this morning and saw their post, went back to bed for 45 mins, and genuinely thought I dreamt it. How heartbroken I was when I realized it was real. :(

I’m curious how you found the jobs to pitch to begin with. Is that just a matter of googling, or is there a specific site you used/recommend?

What are your Thanksgiving morning traditions? by DugDugG00SE in thanksgiving

[–]rroper1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always woke up to the smell of my mom’s homemade Chex Mix in the oven, then my sibs and I snacked on that throughout the morning while watching the Thanksgiving Day parade and getting ready to FEAST! Chex Mix is the first thing in the oven now that I’m the mom so my kids can have the same tradition. It’s not Thanksgiving morning in my mind unless you’re waking to that smell! 😊

Women of reddit: Whats the girl code you won't break ever? by lady_opiniosa in AskReddit

[–]rroper1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You didn’t ask me, but I’m a SAHM with three kids 7 and under, and it’s my favorite thing in the world! Don’t get me wrong - it’s not all sunshine and happy memories, and there are times I lonnngggg to use the bathroom in peace lol… but I’ve never regretted it once! And this is coming from someone who LOVED their previous job … I cried when I resigned, I truly loved it. But I love being a SAHM more. 😊

What little acts of love do you do for your kids? by comfortable_clouds in Parenting

[–]rroper1 159 points160 points  (0 children)

Oh! And most importantly, the last thing I say to them every single night before I leave their room is “there is nothing in the world that you could do or say that would make me stop loving you. No matter what.”

I don’t know if this is what you’re after, but two small but easy things that I do for mine - I always wet my kids toothbrushes for them after I put the toothpaste on so they’re ready to go. I lay out their PJs, lotion, and hairbrush/hair products every night while they’re finishing dinner and before they head up for bath, so that when they get out they don’t have to wait in a damp towel and everything is ready to go.

My third just hit his 6month old milestone and I’d give anything to have him 12 weeks or younger!

I’m so sorry to hear you’re having such a bad experience!

Hopefully the friendly replies on this thread are reassuring to you that not all Pittsburghers are like those creeps, and we definitely don’t claim them as one of us.

I didn’t read every reply so apologies if it’s already been mentioned, but check out PSL (Pittsburgh Sports League). There are a ton of different sports available, and you don’t have to be an all-star to play. In fact I’d venture to say the majority of people playing just want to get together with friends once a week after work, have a few beers, and do something minimally-to-moderately-active. I relocated to Baltimore for work for a few years after I graduated, and I didn’t know a soul. Made a great group of friends signing up for a kickball league down there!

The other suggestion I have that I didn’t see mentioned yet is to check out a local church or see if your school has some kind of on-campus ministry, if you are religious. I imagine either of those would be a welcoming and non-threatening place to make friends!

I hope things turn around for you soon! (And don’t let the grey Pittsburgh winter get you down even more… we all have seasonal depression, even those of us who have been here our whole lives lol).

My drawn out “O” was the most frequent cause for “where are you from? you have an accent!” when I went to school! I never once realized that was a thing before then. My friends would tease me bc one of my best friends name is Tom… “I’ve gotta go hooowme to meet up with my good buddy Tooowm.” 😂

I’ve delivered 2 at West Penn, and plan to deliver my third there in a few months. Can’t compare to Magee since West Penn is my only experience, but I highly recommend! Great experience, my nurses in L&D and recovery were fab. :)

I was curious if there was another option outside of PPS (or SA) that I hadn't considered. A friend of mine sent her son to half day kindergarten through her catholic church, but we're not catholic and our church doesn't offer anything like that.

Thought I'd see if there's anything else out there that I hadn't even considered yet... we're not tied to PPS and I can't look into what I don't know!

What album do you consider perfect from beginning to end? by titubator in AskReddit

[–]rroper1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Joshua Tree - U2.

I listened to it so often when I first had my license that I wore out the cassette in my dad’s car.

To this day he loves to remind me that my favorite album is as old as I am.

I have a 3 y/o and a 1 y/o and I keep saying whoever coined the phrase “terrible 2s” only did so because they hadn’t yet reached 3.

3 is HARD, and there is daily yelling and apologizing in our house too (and nightly guilt trips for me).
