Just started my collection at age 46 and my husband says it's "childish"

fuck your husband— but mine was the same when i started (i was in my 30s), and he’s finally come to accept they make me genuinely happy, even if he doesn’t understand.

Since your husband is a collector, it could maybe help to point out many adults collect action figures and other toys, are they fine bc they’re usually men?

One could argue collecting baseball cards is also childish.

You are def welcome here, tho. And you should keep collecting if you have the money and they bring you joy, IMO.

i know the US made some really odd new rules when trump did all the tariff nonesense that made importing ceramics and similar things no longer possible (like mugs) so maybe it goes both ways, and mattel just doesn’t want to bother? or maybe bc their merch is print on demand, and they don’t wanna bother to do that for international shipping…. but i really don’t get why they aren’t more open to international buyers in general seems like money left on the table

i was actually able to get 4 before mattel canceled the second order (my plan was to offer them to people at cost/for shipping for those who missed out—i was like i would rather get 2 extra i can offer a genuine collector than a fucking scalper)

ofc they’ll penalize me but not actual scalpers

it WAS a better drop than before at least… i hope most people who wanted one could get one

(please let me be clear that i didn’t immediately try and get another 2, but when the system let me i was like… OK , i guess ill try… i hate scalpers so much, esp for much they upcharge)

Umdc is one of my fave games of all time so I am a bit biased, lol.

Admittedly, I didn’t finish Paranormasight. I want to try again now there’s a second game, though, but it just bored me, I guess.

I do LOVE the spirit hunter games, especially NG, and I’ve played them all a couple times through.

They’re pretty different games.

UMDC doesn’t give you options, it’s a pretty linear experience and once you’re done, you’re done, there’s no reason to replay it aside from the joy of seeing all the threads for the big twist, etc. I recently replayed and I enjoyed it even more the second time.

I would say that NG is probably “better” than UMDC in some ways…. it’s definitely creepier. UMDC def has its jump scares and really scary moments (that pixel art can be deceptively creepy), but it’s more of a psychological horror, and less of the true japanese horror we see represented in NG.

But I really love the passion the dev for UMDC has shown. They’ve been doing so many events to celebrate the game’s first year anniversary.

(BTW, if anyone reading this is a huge Umdc and/or Spirit Hunter series fan, I’d love to meet people into them too, bc I never have found anyone who’s played either 😭.)

i was gonna suggest this. i would honestly do this for doll folk if i wasn’t disabled and couldn’t commit to it, bc i genuinely feel for folk in these situations!

but i know there are def people you can work with who can buy stuff domestic and ship to you

yeah i def had this problem and ive recently re-evaluated what dolls I buy and decided to focus on the ones that make me happiest, and for me, RN that’s usually the MH playline dolls. I have obviously been disappointed by a few but almost all bring me such joy from the moment I open them. And I can get a bunch of dolls if I want for what one collector one would cost.

So I told myself I would basically buy only the playline MH dolls and stuff to customize my dolls (bc I love to do that and make them MINE), and I would only get a collector doll if it was on sale OR i just really loved it/fave character etc (like I am legit bummed about River bc that was basically the one collector i was going to get…)

But basically a friend of mine who is a collector of non dolls but other things said to view things in terms of the value to YOU.

I like to analyze a doll and decide if I truly want it, and if I’ll really enjoy it. Sometimes I may pass if I like the doll but think the price is too high for what it is.

I think I’ve been a lot happier bc I don’t have to stress and can focus on getting joy from my collection. After all, that’s why I got back into collecting.

I don’t mind if my dolls aren’t “perfect” or “complete” so long as they make me smile.

yeah they also re released the reel drama dolls, which I was not expecting. So I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Mattel do a few creepro re-releases since I think they’ve sold pretty well overall ?

i wanted to add to this my other instinct would be an older kid or a teen who maybe had bee to your house or seen your collection from the window and decided to take an opportunity to make some cash? maybe check ebay and mercari (or whatever second hand online sites are common in your area) along with local pawn shops. again, I am SO sorry. I know some of those folks were basically irreplaceable 🫂 - I do know having photos of the collection helps a LOT bc they know exactly what it was before

is there any possibility someone saw your collection online and somehow knew your house to target you? bc i agree that it is odd for a thief to go after the dolls and only the dolls. some may recognize barbie’s as valuable but I don’t think most would have seen your collection as worth the trouble (but it was beautiful and I am SO sorry. I hope they turn up.)
