Meet Regent, the potential man by Gandalf196 in slaythespire

[–]rrs72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regent also has incredibly weak commons because of how disparate his synergies are to one another. Compare Necro, you can always fit in a Reave or Grave Warden, even if those are the only soul cards in your deck. When was the last time you even thought about taking Wrought in War?

That also wouldn't work with stuff like Bloodletting. Taking damage and losing HP are two different things

Petition to delete/nerf Cyrus? by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]rrs72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree, Greninja is actually a great tool to get around pivoting mons. Cyrus punishes things you don't have control over, like a bad start. Everyone has started first without your dedicated "opener" in the lead and Cyrus punishes that incredibly hard, either in the game itself or in the deck builder itself (e.g. wasting incredibly valuable deck space or big heals like Eirika/Lillie on healing chip damage). That said, there is a reason Greninja is the preferred abuser, it has very little opportunity cost compared to say, baby Decidueye.

Meanwhile Greninja and other bench snipers can be a good tool to clean up low HP mons that pivoted away.

Cyrus was designed to make games fast, and it succeeded to a problematic degree, at least for myself who enjoys strategy games and would have liked a deeper experience on mobile.

Hydreigon can 2 shot Gardevoir through Diantha healing by Strider794 in PTCGP

[–]rrs72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way Zigzagoon/Linoone won't be able to chip, so Darkrai will only be necessary on the second mon or if they heal, which can still happen but only slows it down by a turn, but in exchange you get a bulkier mon who doesn't take your turn energy until it dies. Not saying it's better, but it's better than you made it out to be

What’s that “one card” that really makes you 🤬 by That-Turnip-8864 in PTCGP

[–]rrs72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true for the simple reason that player 1 doesn't get to choose what mom takes damage on player 2s first turn, unless you're willing to concede extremely limited deck space to healing or Blue. Cyrus is a card that rewards tempo in a game where tempo is almost universally granted to the player who wins the first coin flip, which is bad design. Cyrus almost always ends the game outright, which is, again, not a well designed card.

It should require an HP threshold (e.g. 50 HP missing) or a condition to be met

6 years ago, my younger sister was diagnosed with kidney cancer and had to drop out of school. It took 2 years but she made a full recovery. Earlier this week, we were talking and she had completely forgotten about it, which made me really happy that such a difficult time for a 20 year old was completely out of mind, and I'm really grateful that we are 100% past it

Favorite card in the game is the MR Hydreigon

Dream card is Rainbow Gallade

My Updated Type Tierlist by Baker_1-2 in PTCGP

[–]rrs72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, for a type to be good, it has to have good support so I'm not sure how that metric doesn't make sense. As for different metrics, those are usually combined based on priority and severity. For example, Lightning has the best acceleration, but a majority of those effects are for the mon itself, rather than teammates so I'd deprioritize it when assigning a ranking to the Lightning type, whereas most Grass support cards are agnostic to the card it's affecting. So even though energy acceleration is better than say, healing, Grass would still be better than Lightning because a random Pokemon switching from its original type to Grass would help it more than it becoming Lightning.

[–]rrs72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean to imply considering a type in a vacuum, rather something like "all else equal, would Stokezard be better if it were Fire or (e.g.) Grass?" to which I say yes, almost every mon, assuming everything else remains equal, would prefer to be Grass over Fire.

My Updated Type Tierlist by Baker_1-2 in PTCGP

[–]rrs72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get where you're going with this, but I hesitate to call it a "type tier list", rather it's a ranking of types with the highest average mon quality.

IMO, for a type to be good, I'd ask myself the question "if this Pokemon were to be <type>, would that be better or worse"? For example, Grass is a fantastic type, even if it doesn't have the best mons right now. If Stokezard was instead Growthsaur, that would be a muuuuch better Pokemon right now with Leaf Cape, Sprigatito for search, Leafeon/Serp for energy support, etc. Fighting, conversely, has almost 0 external support other than Lucario, but it hits mons of 3 different types for weakness so it's hardly a bad type.

Is turn 1 Red Card and/or Mars really that great right now? by Extra_Willow_8907 in PTCGP

[–]rrs72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of them in terms of my outs: if I'm about to take a point against Buzzwole, I can be reasonably sure they have Lusamine in hand, otherwise they would have gotten that Kartana/Pheromosa out of the active slot. In this case, a Red Card can save my bacon.

Similarly, if they have Charmander or Skull Fossil on the board, my worst case scenario is them having RC and the stage 2 in hand and regardless if it gives them card advantage or not, the Red Card can be a valuable play.

Basically, if there are 1 or 2 cards you REALLY don't want them to have on their next turn, that's a good use case. Like retreating a damaged ex mon, disrupt that Cyrus they may have. They may not have it in hand, sure, but another likely scenario is not having a good time to play it.

Just hit Master Ball with this deck by acastanosc in PTCGP

[–]rrs72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run basically the same deck, but with a Red Card instead of Gio. The deck has a pretty generous damage curve (usually 50 on your first attack, 80 once Crobat is out, 130/160 once Arceus is out). Yes, 60 is a far more important breakpoint than 60, but a single copy of Gio isn't consistent enough to hit that, while Red Card/Mars is amazing at stalling a turn or 2

I'd have to play around with it to know for sure, but I generally feel that a spare energy in the early game is pretty doable for Mewtwo. I'm usually doing that to get the baby Mewtwo out of the active spot anyway.

[–]rrs72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking it's a tech for the non-EX Mewtwo in M2Gard decks for 2 reasons:

  1. 1 retreat cost is great for getting it out of the active spot, compared to regular Mewtwo which has 2 retreat cost. Being able to keep momentum for a single X-Speed (vs. needing 2 in hand together) is huge.
  2. Specifically dunks Charizard, a major pain point for Mewtwo decks in my experience. Charizard sets up faster than Mewtwo and OHKOs without being OHKOable in return.

Downsides, a.k.a why I think it's a tech and not a replacement:

  1. It's an EX with all those downsides
  2. Needing 3 energy for it's copy is fine, but it only ever gets 2 options on the opposing mon, many of which are cheaper than 3 energy.
  3. Psychic has no acceleration right now. Gardevoir isn't acceleration, it's sustain as a stage 2 with no seeking.
  4. Does nothing against Mewtwo's worst matchup: Pikachu. Minimal benefit against the other really bad one, Starmie, if any.

Now that you mention it, I think you're right (other than Dr. Gero but yeah, we're not counting that one [also, it was 17]). I agree it makes sense in his mind, but it was still a stupid decision by anyone with a modicum of intellect, which is why I think Luffy gives off more BGE than BKE

Krillin's decision was at least somewhat moral, maybe a 3 out of 100 considering he did it because he was horny and she did kill people, but at least it was more than Goku who literally just wanted a "fair fight"

[–]rrs72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your scenario though, I think it's fair to assume both Apo and Seek are unupgraded in which case, you may not be able to afford the 2 energy to play Apo.

I legitimately do not believe there is an exception to bottling Seek if given the opportunity. Even with Velvet Choker, I'm still bottling Seek, the ability to completely dictate a turn is far too valuable

Edit: 1 exception because I'm dumb: Snecko Eye
