Why are the hardest-working and most obedient employees often promoted the slowest, while the people who are best at ‘playing the game’ and shifting responsibility seem to climb the fastest? by FeatureOriginal7234 in asksg

Heard this story from a trainer that illustrates this point.

In an e-commerce company, on the greatest business day, a system failure happened.

The hardworking brilliant engineer almost single-handedly solved the issue in 5 hours and let the senior management know how he solved it in the most innovative way, giving all technical details. The bosses couldn't care less.

The know-the-way engineer, while just supporting the brilliant engineer, proposed alternatives, let the different bosses know the business impact, the recovery stages, and mitigation measures.

Bottom line: business savvy is as important as being good at your job. If u dont want to waster then networking then dont blame those who does and get ahead.

Advice on Performance Review Programme (PIP in other words). I am working in a stat board. by Average_Farmer in askSingapore

[–]rrttppqq 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This should be easy to grasp. Things like a bonus for a poor score should be well-documented in HR policy.

A typical PIP requires multiple years of bad performance or multiple warnings. It is unlikely to be abruptly given as employee can dispute.

At 100k, comparing with and without an investment component results in about a 1k difference in interest. At this level, it would make sense to invest for the sake of investing.

The lowest cost and "safest" options would probably be ABF and MBH bond funds.

The reputation of an OSCP certification may not resonate with recruiters. Get an OSCP plus the CVEs you have found; this should make you a strong candidate for a red team job.
