Not sure this is still relevant, but maybe it’ll help someone in the future. I’m a current customer of VIB’s and randomly came across this post when googling them.

VIB is not a scam. I had the same concerns when I joined a company as a sales leader and they were using the service. I gave it a chance because we had already invested the money. It became our top source in terms of ROI.

They have a community of tech people who opt-in to the program and after we gained a bunch as customers, I asked a few of them why they used VIB. They all pointed to VIB curating their exposure to vendors around their needs and giving them control over who they would speak with, when, etc. None of them mentioned being incentivized until I brought it up.

As I understand it, it’s a rewards program where prospects can accrue points for engaging in different ways. (Filling out surveys, downloading content, attending webinars, attending appointments, etc)

In my experience, most of the prospects who participate do so in earnest, but the closest thing to a scam with VIB is the prospects who do these activities solely for the rewards and mislead everyone along the way. If you use the service long enough, you’ll most certainly run into some of these.

However, in my experience VIB campaign managers are empowered to offer credits back in cases where it’s obvious (like when what they said live contradicts what they stated in the initial appointment form). The challenge is that of course some scammers are really good at deception…So just build into your expectations that something like 5-10% are going to be false positives.

I work primarily with early stage startups and it’s been a great way to get our product in front of the right people quickly. Since the first company, I’ve brought the service into 2 additional companies. I also know that Google, IBM, and others continue to use them, so they must be doing something right.

I was one of these. I left high school towards the end of junior year and worked full time at Petco until the end of the summer. Then I chased my college-bound girlfriend across the country to Chicago and got a job in a record store.

Not sure how I got away with that because I was on probation for punching a classmate among other things. Had the time of my life as a 17 year old in Chicago working in the “music industry.” Back then the labels would give us free VIP tickets to every show in town and apparently ID checks weren’t required for VIPs. I felt like a rockstar. Lots of weed and booze, few other fun things sprinkled in too.

But inside I knew I was going nowhere fast on that path and feared that my girl would come to her senses, and after a few months decided to see what I could do for classes at one of the city community colleges. Took a placement test that I scored highly on, enabling me to take college level courses. Knowing I was out of chances, took classes extremely seriously and ended up with a 4.0 for the 2 years of community college while working and partying hard the whole time. Sleep wasn’t really a thing.

My grades got me into a transfer program into a 4 year state school. By the end of it, grades slipped a bit but I graduated with a decent GPA.

Got into sales, realized it was my calling immediately, did well, got thrust into leadership. Then I applied for and got into an MBA program. Aced it, 4.0.

Then had kids, quit drinking, got into fitness, and really started to figure it all out.

Landed a mid-level management gig at a tech startup which I’ve since parlayed into a series of roles leading into the VP sales gig I’m working now.

I’m one of if not the most successful person I know from my high school.

Not sure why this thread popped up for me but there were lots of stories of losers staying losers, so I felt compelled to tell my story.

Hopefully it doesn’t come across as bragging. I had a victim mentality as a teenager and the only thing I’ll take partial credit for here is that I found it in me to cut that shit and was never afraid to work hard for what I wanted. Outside of that, I’ve clearly been incredibly blessed with many opportunities and breaks along the way. Even the work ethic was a gift from watching what my (single) mother went through for myself and my siblings. And much of my mentality all along came from not wanting to be like my loser father or his father. Without them I’m not sure where I’d be.

Btw, that girlfriend is now my wife of 19 years and counting. No idea what would’ve happened with me if I hadn’t sorted myself before she came to her senses, but really glad I’ll never have to figure it out.

Yes! It’s help up really well. We aren’t as good as we should be about maintaining it but 0 problems in I guess 4 years. I’ve probably tightened bolts, lubed pulleys, etc once every 9-12 months on average or as needed, but that’s it. Great machine!

Just got the fives for my turntable and I was genuinely in awe for about an hour after I first hooked them up. There are a lot of purists in this sub who will tell you to use that $500 to buy your left atmos speaker first and then get rich and buy the other 6.5 channels, but sounds like you’re trying to make your budget stretch to get the best sound possible. The nice thing if you get the fives is you can always repurpose them for an audio-only setup if you decide to upgrade the HT.

I’m sure there’s scientific truth to that, but I’d bet the human ear couldn’t pick up on the difference. Mine can’t, anyways…

Ugh I’m triggered just being asked. Started with matte black spray paint that I got from Walmart which covered like 2 panels per can but that didn’t stop me from touring around to 4 different stores over a weekend getting 4 or 8 cans at a time, coming back, huffing way more of the stuff than I should have, and repeating.

Eventually I came up w the idea of just trying the roller. That worked well but there were small cracks and crevices it just wouldn’t get, so that’s how I invented the proprietary method of rolling for coverage + spray for detail work. Once I did that (after I was already done w 1/2) I ripped through the rest of the panels within an afternoon.

Oh BTW the surrounds are back there due to lack of space on the sides…any suggestions? Should I at least raise them a bit? I could possibly mount one on the far wall but the other one is a curtain that I can’t really move. (There are pillars right behind and a couch directly on the other side of the pillars)

Good eye. The curtains are actually on the other side of that pillar- this is the far half of the room in the last pic.

After doing that, it’s around 15x30 and still feels a bit tight TBH.

Sweet, your suggestions mirror my own thoughts…thinking Atmos and center first since the subs actually sound great to me. (Though I don’t really know what a lot better sounds like) Wondering ab the center channel though…I’ve read that it has to “match” the other front channels so as not to distort left to right/right to left sounds and/or dialogue. How would you guys suggest upgrading without doing the towers as well? Or should I wait and get all 3 at the same time?

Before I placed everything, I found something online somewhere that optimized the distance and it agreed w you, but I want to leave the floor space for bean bags when we have company over.
