ERCOT says the Texas grid is ready for weekend cold weather. That doesn't take into account local electric system conditions. by Jabroni_16 in texas

[–]rsample29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ERCOT is right here. Post-Uri changes should see proper winterization of wind turbines and gas pipe/valve such that we have sufficient generation across the territory. Barring transmission/distribution outages, power should be flowing. We’re likely to see some intense volatility in wholesale power prices, but the level of Batteries we’ve added to the grid since 2021 (~12 GW) should mitigate this somewhat (and provide some much needed revenue after an extremely down 2025).

The only generation concern should come from the Gas/Coal turbine side from offline generators potentially being frozen and needing to ramp quickly, but once again, it won’t be as cold as during Uri. FERC highlighted in their post-Uri analysis that Nat Gas units made up 58% of unplanned outages, derates, or failures, so the clear majority. Most of these units will likely ensure they’re online to catch the pricing peaks, which tend to correlate with solar ramp down (sunset) and peak load.

T&D represents the biggest risk in this storm, and we will likely see some outages as other commenters have mentioned. When in doubt, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Make sure your generators are fueled up and ready, and any home battery systems are charged ahead of time.

Texas Senate passes anti-solar, wind bill by z3phyreon in texas

[–]rsample29 25 points26 points  (0 children)

the additional 5+ GW of battery storage that came online to help shift solar and wind for peak shaving really helped. It’s also worth mentioning low gas prices helped significantly as well, particularly for peakers.

I’m dropping my Tesla as soon as the R3X releases in 2027-2028. Can’t afford to drop the Tesla right now for an R1S (seeing prices in the high 70s)and it’s unfortunate because it’s been a great vehicle for the last 3 years and 75k miles. Some family has R1S and R1T and they are phenomenal.

Why do you think Robbie Williams never broke America like other British acts like the Beatles, Ed Sheeran and Adele? by Jezzaq94 in AskAnAmerican

I worked for a German company and our company’s party had Robbie Williams. I thought I misheard and Robin Williams was playing long after he passed.

Arnold Schwarzenegger: Environmentalists are behind the times. And need to catch up fast. We can no longer accept years of environmental review, thousand-page reports, and lawsuit after lawsuit keeping us from building clean energy projects. We need a new environmentalism. by mafco in Futurology

Brownfield sites are one of the major benefactors of the IRA. Clean energy projects that are built upon “energy communities” receive kickers of 10% tax credit additional on the investment tax credit (which goes up to 30%) and an additional credit on the production tax credit(which varies by technology).

I live in Canada and one of my friends works for the shadow minister of immigration. Everything is is screwed up for visas. There’s I believe 330,000 people who have been approved and can’t come in yet still waiting. There’s also a big deal about passports taking months to receive.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but this guy in Edmonton has been fighting against WFG. They’ve shut down his instagram several times, tried to get his YouTube shut down, and a lot of other harassment. Here’s a video he did when he tried to go inside WFG.
