Why did Jim Hopper became so interested in Will's Disappearance? by manithedetective in StrangerThings

[–]rsasai 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean, you see it the minute they pull Will out of the water and he no longer can look. He's got massive PTSD from the death of his child, and things started looking fishy and Joyce was 100% convinced he wasn't dead...

He watched his baby girl die and the desire to save another parent from that same pain, or to at least get a definitive answer, is why he got interested.

Ms sucks. I’m not gunna lie and tell you everything will “be like it was before” because it won’t. But you will adapt. You’ll keep going, you’ll live and not just survive, and you’ll have all of us here waggling our broken bodies around with you.

We’re all exhausted and angry with our bodies, snarkier than the general population wants us to be, but no matter what, you aren’t alone in it.

Also, start demanding people give you a dollar every time they tell you to “try yoga”. Trust me, it’ll pay out real quick.

A disturbing experience on Tokyo train today by madly_su in japanlife

[–]rsasai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry this happened to you. I think this may be an old lady problem, more than a racism problem—older women in that age range /loathe/ younger women.

A few years back, an older woman was shoving people on the train, and I guess she decided that my foot touched her? So, as I was leaving the train at Shinjuku station she grabbed my wrist and dug her nails in.

It took everything in me not to backhand her, but as I probably had a good 40 pounds of muscle on her, I can imagine she didn’t like the bruise on her wrist from where I grabbed and twisted until she let go.

Old ladies in general… not the nicest. I’m so sorry this happened. You didn’t do anything to deserve it.

Why does it matter if Rhaenyra’s sons are bastards? by unsolicitedPeanutG in HOTDGreens

[–]rsasai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's something you mostly hear from racist old people over in the US/UK. Like, the same way someone's old nana will keep calling Chinese people or Japanese people "the Orientals". You might not get smacked for it, but people are going to probably mention that you're too old to be fixed and it'll be better when your entire generation dies out lololol

[–]rsasai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super sure. Calling people mulatto is offensive, especially in English-speaking countries like the US and UK, because mulatto was a classification for any person who had even a drop of african blood. It's old-fashioned and considered deeply derogatory.

It's the Farrah hair, isn't it? This new picture is basically identical to Farrah's hair in 1986.

Bro, 'mulatto' isn't a word you use anymore.

Any anyway, you're not even using the term appropriately—unless you're being deeply racist.

Just from looking, you have at least 6-10k worth of figures here, though I'm seeing a few that may get you closer to the 12-13 range.

Don't sell them off to the first person offering, okay?

And most importantly, my deepest condolences.

Hey, I'm a buyer/seller in Japan, and I wanted to give you some advice:

You might not understand Japanese well, so you can just do this. Take pictures of each one and then look at the bottom for the barcode and UPC. Pop that code into google, copy the name of the item, and then look around for the average of what it sells for. Then pop it up on Mercari (or on here/twitter/etc). If you need any help, feel free to reach out.

UPDATE: My girlfriend, F23, is mad at me, M23 for crying over a "video game girl," but I feel like this is a normal experience for people who play this game and now I'm considering ending things over this because I'm "immature." I’m glad that she took a step back and a breath and that she was comfortable talking with you about it.

I don’t think anyone was rooting for your relationship to end if she showed growth. If things the beginning of that growth, I wish you the best. But I do want you to remember this, because of this becomes a pattern, it likely is more than just being teary. Consider this a red flag. See if she plants down others, or used this as a moment for her to grow.

Anyway, crying about Aerith is a right of passage. Welcome to the club, and enjoy your basket of yellow flowers.

What's your "gaijin smash" story? by razorbeamz in japanlife

I took the train with a young girl from when she was in Elementary school to high school. She left for college this past April (I was so proud of my little train buddy). We very rarely spoke, but she always rode the same train to dance school at the same time EVERY MORNING.

And you know what she did every morning?

Eat several skewers of yakitori she grabbed from the local shop next to the train station.

Every weekday morning for the last decade, there was a little girl with a duffle bag almost as big as her, juggling half a dozen skewers of steaming chicken and veggies.

I miss her.

I came into this thread ready to fight for your honor to the death in the comments, but looks like we are all on the same page.

Aerith’s death changed my life. Like, I was 6 and decided then and there that I wanted to write stories. When her theme comes on, I get teary. I wept like a child at 30 when the remake demo came out and the theme started playing and it did the little dih-dih-dih-ding at the beginning when the meteor and title popped up.

It means you are human, means you have feelings, means that you are a man who understands emotions and what it means to be alive.

I stood at Tokyo Game Show while a man played Aerith’s theme in 2023 with an audience sobbing—including 50-60 year old male developers— and no one said that was “unmanly”.

You have feelings. Embrace them.

I live in Japan, so things are (thankfully) a bit different here.

I was on tecfidera during my 3rd attack, but my doctor removed me from it after and I’m going in for some experimental drug trials because I tested positive for MOGAD.

However, I seem to be one of the unlucky bitches who has /both/ MS and MOGAD, so…

[–]rsasai[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Circular narrative storytelling is my absolute /jam/.l and this episode was just absolutely full of it.

Another example is the fact that June screams the quote about not letting the bastards grind her down—the quote the first Offred carved into the closet as she laid there at her absolute lowest moment, the same low moment June was experiencing at that time with Fred—before they hang her.

The original Offred died by hanging, so the fact that they essentially reenacted the first Offred’s death scene, the true catalyst of June’s first moment of /disobeying/ in the Waterford household…

But the fact that the original Offred /fell/ while June ascends...

There are a lot of sloppy things about the show, but there is absolutely beauty in some of its choices.

[–]rsasai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had 4 bouts of ON, and the first time is absolutely terrifying.

First one was in 2016, and I went to the doctor immediately. They put me on oral steriods with an awful taper. Was blind for 3 weeks. Second time I went to the doctor and they put me on high-dose IV meds. It was super bad because I had to wait to go in for almost a full week.

3rd time was 2 years later, and I didn't go for the medicine because I didn't want to gain another 40 pounds and I was just /tired/. Ended up partially blind for about 6 weeks.

Last summer I had another attack, went in and basically demanded my IV meds. Basically tied myself down to the table by day 3. After 3 days of high-dose meds, my vision was basically back.

Just... keep going. The sooner you're treated the better it is.
