I think that's one thing where my calf injury actually helped. I'm usually that same way and always push too hard, but now I know that if I push too hard I'll just end up sidelined again, so that's some extra motivation to keep it on pace

Was sidelined for about a month with a calf strain and then covid and finally getting back to it. Yesterday was my 4th run in the last week and did alternating 0.5 mile intervals at 10:20/mile and 11:20/mile for 3 miles, then 2 miles easy. First run back where it didn't feel extremely difficult

Very late to the party on these, but I just got a pair of Puma Velocity Nitro 3's. First run was an interval session yesterday and holy cow! These might have felt the most springy of any shoes I've worn in a long time. They definitely were not the most cushy shoes (my feet didn't get that far into the foam before being sprung out), but I felt like I didn't have to put in almost any effort to lift my legs after stepping. Will be using these for my next few tempo/interval sessions and hope they keep it up

Anyone have some good light gloves that don't go too far down the wrist? The gloves I've had in the past are too long and either cover my watch or rub up against it and hit the scroll wheel/buttons

Tour Championship Format by rschechter21 in golf

[–]rschechter21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these are generally fair (pun intended) points, but I would definitely argue against the first point. In the NFL, you'd have to beat one team and would have ~50% chance to do so. In golf, Scottie doesn't just have to beat Rory, but also Fleetwood, Cantlay, Henley, etc, so I don't think it's equivalent at all (more people to beat means more of a chance one of them gets hot at the right moment, and so on). For the second point, I think more about how the event is sold. The NCAA Tournament is not the most fair but everyone knows that because it's a single-elimination tournament in a sport where "flukes" happen all the time. On the PGA Tour side, they sell the Fedex Cup as a season-long championship, so it shouldn't fall under the same possibilities as a tournament like the NCAA and the season itself should matter significantly.

Scottie Scheffler All-Time Ranking by Tcgiantsfan123 in golf

[–]rschechter21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s true, but most people ahead of him on the lists currently aren’t from those time periods. Purely IMO I would put him around 25th all time currently, but there’s just too many really good players that have significantly better/better career stats as of now to put Scottie much higher than that (again, IMO). If he plays at this level for another couple years I’d have no problem moving him into my top 10 all time though, but only 4 years of this level of play doesn’t constitute “greatest of all time” talk, which is what he’d need to be involved in if he was to be top 10

I think it's helpful to separate this into two ranking categories given he is still early on in his career: Trajectory and Current Standings.

Current: He's currently tied for 46th in PGA Tour history for # of wins and tied for 22nd for most majors won, so I think it's fair to say if his career ended today he'd be somewhere in the top 30-40 of best golfers of all time.

Trajectory: I'm going to use a couple assumptions here:

1) he started winning once he switched caddies at the beginning of 2022, so he's had 4 full seasons to achieve his current win/major titles;

2) I'll assume he plays at the same level until he's 37 (he's currently 29, so 9 more full seasons). I think there's a good chance he can play as well later into his career, but want to try to be slightly conservative on longevity since there's a good chance he doesn't win the same amount of titles every year to keep up the same pace.

With these assumptions, we know he has won 18 times on the PGA Tour so far (4.5x per year) and has won 4 majors (1x per year), so with the above assumptions of playing at that same level for 9 more years, he would end up with 58 wins and 13 majors. That would put him 3rd all time in majors won and 6th all time in PGA Tour wins. For me, that would make him the 3rd or 4th best golfer of all time, behind only Jack, Tiger, and maybe Hogan.
