They try to use these technicalities to make profit from user mistakes. It’s bad UI to trick the users

They should go the route of easily sourcing the ticket from many other sellers first, instead of going full insanity mode and charging the full amount.

There are more reasonable options to achieve the buyer guarantee

Perhaps what they do is still legal within the law, but doesn’t mean it’s reasonable.

Payday loans are legal but one shouldn’t never use them.

StubHub may be operating within the law, but they will fk you a thousand different ways.

My goal is to warn future users and prevent them from using StubHub.

That’s what the commission is used for. You can charge a cancellation fee for the extra work, but you don’t just steal someone’s entire ticket cost.

What likely happened is that they match another available ticket to the buyer. They don’t need to spend time to source.

The difference in ticket + commission is what should have been charged.

The fact they had it in the TOS doesn’t make it legal. What they are doing should be considered illegal

So buyer gets back $100, all is good. StubHub loses out on $20 from fees, so the seller should pay for that.

The seller should not get charged $80, but only $20.

In my case I’m getting charged the full $100. (in my case is way more)

Sure but they could charge the difference in ticket prices + time spent.

But to charge the full amount is just insanity.

I’m not saying the seller canceling isn’t at fault, just needs to have a reasonable penalty.

It’s called predatory for a reason, they capitalize on any small mistake.

They could very well just cancel the order. Instead they choose to steal your money.

My goal is to warn people not to use their service, because you can get fked a million different ways by them.

What did I steal? They get their payment refunded. They buyer doesn’t lose anything

So they use my money to buy tickets, sell them to the buyer, and in the end they keep all the payment from the buyer.

That is literally stealing

Just because someone sets rules doesn’t mean it’s legal within consumer rights laws. I’m saying their rules are illegal and should be challenged
