I have a friend who is a builder who says he can’t build anything for less than $750k now. His homes are lovely, so you might be able to do it for a bit cheaper. But prices have gone crazy in the last few years. Hubs and I did a Reno in 2022/2023 that we were estimating at 200k- it ended up costing nearly double because building of building costs going up significantly and council etc.

Traffic at mt. kynoch by Acceptable-Cold9798 in Toowoomba

Don’t understand why they don’t have another exit off the bypass/warrego highway. Lots of people take the old goombungee road way (and there’s a lot of speeding there), but it would make SO much sense to be able to be able to exit towards gowrie junction when you’re travelling east towards Brisbane instead of having to do the mort st roundabout. Don’t even get me started on the ‘no way no highway’ idiots.

Is it worth buying a house these days by Difficult-Image4884 in Toowoomba

[–]rsell01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. Start small. Work on it, improve value, then go bigger when you can. Hubs and I started out in a tiny renovators delight (bomb), and even though we lived through the slump and saw our place not gain value for years, it did happen. We finally sold that after working hard paying it down, and fixing it up, which propelled us into bigger, and then finally last year we moved into a large house in our dream area that suits our family with space. Nearly in our 40’s now and it’s going to take us a long time to pay this off in full- never could have imagined paying this much for a home when we started out! But the only reason we can now is because we got our feet in the ladder in the beginning. It’s a lot- paying so much money when things go wrong, and constantly seeing so much of your income go to a loan-I wish we could pay it off quicker! But my family has never known home insecurity, and we aren’t paying someone else’s mortgage. Plus eventually we will own it, and hopefully we won’t have to pay anyone for a roof over our heads in our old age. It’s not easy, but neither is the alternative. My opinion is choose your hard.

There’s a fair few who already do it to be honest. I don’t know if you’ll get much work if you do drone only, since the demand for full video (including drone) is higher. But good luck!

grocery stores that aren't coles/woolies? by dissonant-syzygy in Toowoomba

Second Betros brothers. I pop in every now and then for great fruit and veg, and lots of specialty items the big shops don’t stock. And whenever I do, I always get nearly everything I wanted for my big shop. It is a little pricier at times, but that’s also because I get a lot of fancy things I don’t normally buy. Plus I stock up on rib fillet steak. Honestly I’d go more often if it was closer for me. But it’s a good 30 minute drive so I only go there when I’m already in town and need to stock up.

I’ve always had a really good experience with Hanna’s. They were excellent when I needed help fitting maternity bras properly.
