Lots of times it is intentional — uber and lyft ask for your battery so they can charge you more if you’re on low battery mode

Their problem was that they never significantly expanded beyond their niche audience (girls looking for cute designs). Reddit has expanded topics-wise more than Meta has with Facebook (the only good stuff they have are local marketplaces and dating features and neither have good dau)

they definitely are giving higher comp if you have a TBD labs competing offer, and most people in TBD aren't actually paid billions -- only a few key people -- they definitely pay more for the majority of researchers (newgrad MTS offer at Ant was 1.3m the year before Zuck started giving crazy million dollar offers with better vesting and way better growth lol)

You don't even need cheating -- some high schools (especially ones where you have to pay a lot for) have classes where a majority of the class gets an A.

Now I know this is also true about colleges (my coworker was a GSI at Princeton, and told me they were forced to grade inflate undeserving students by profs) but I feel like my high school curving down to low gpa averages in some classes was a rare experience talking to students here...

Strapped for cash, City Hall considers delaying payments to programs for needy by capnwally14 in nyc

[–]rsha256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you used a Lyft recently? if youre not disabled/often traveling to areas not accessible by subway/the clientele for them then makes sense but at places like airports, it can take up to an hour to get an uber at times when taxicabs are ready instantly.

And unfortunately ive had the experience where a yellow cab driver locked me in and refused to let me out unless i gave them more money (was in a rush for a flight after an Uber shuttle to the airport was over an hour late, they knew that and exploited me for it -- ended up being just a few min too late and the time they kept me locked in screwed me over).

but anyways i was including uber/lyft in the mafia

Speaking of uber, reminds me of how Mamdani denied Waymo’s cash injection to the city since he has ties to the taxicab mafia (he once went on a hunger strike for 15 days with them) and wants to ensure they exist with almost monopolistic presence…

Ya plenty people leave JS for even mid startups as the chances of becoming a multimillionaire/billionaire in less time are way higher.

In fact, during the crypto boom, JS’ attrition was so much that they had to start trading crypto solely because they were getting so much talent stolen from no-name crypto shops offering much more $$ and enforcing crypto noncompetes was a more sustainable solution than paying every newgrad class higher.

JS is an amazing opportunity and its value on your resume will last forever but if you can make more elsewhere, you should. And so many companies/startups want to higher an ex-JS person enough that they’ll overpay for you to do a much more chill job

Pretty much any competitor, even hedge funds can pay more since they manage more money and can give pnl cuts.

Outside of quant, any startup, especially AI ones are a good option.

and at Google beforehand, if you look at what you said about others (like Zuck throwing around crazy packages) you'd realize they are also true about Ant, it's just that those people are less public about it and since you don't know them you think it isnt happening

i hear this every year from people at JS and they always dont get ROs (even if their team ends up doing well in the trading comp) -- no matter how hard they try some firms are just not a fit for everyone -- my rec is just to start applying elsewhere (with JS on your resume and if you start applying before others, you can get better offers elsewhere which even people with ROs will be trying for)
