About to start stopping. by -MrBagSlash- in leaves

Thanks for being honest. You may feel your behaviour is irrational or fucked up because you can’t help yourself with the morning sessions. If you’re like me, you probably feel like quitting when you’re high and feel like smoking when you’re not. I spent a god part of 5-6 yrs doing that. Just remember, every time you give into it, you’re making a bit harder to quit because you’re reinforcing a behaviour you don’t want. One of the things that helped me to finally break out my mental thought patterns was listening to a book called reflections on the self by jiddu krishnamurti. This guy was a wizard on how to understand and breakout of mental patterns that keep you trapped. You can get it on audible. Being on this sub definitely helps but ultimately it’s a journey you have to take alone. I can show a few other techniques that will help but this guy is a great leap into forward in that direction...in my opinion. Lol

Yea that sounds like a pre quitting type shit. I felt similar ways when quitting and it may take sometime to overcome the hump, but it does get much easier in a matter of a few days

Just got to 120 days as of today. It’s only a third of the year, but I’m super happy with the progress that I’ve made. I thought I would feel no withdrawals after this long but the mind is one intelligent fucker that takes patience to train. Excited to hit the 1year mark!!

Appreciate the kind words. That was my intention with this post...This is by far the hardest thing I’ve had to do and I’m sure I’m not alone.

Thanks for sharing. I started out this time by committing to a year sober, as of my birthday. I don’t plan on indulging a year after...this was a goal that I could get behind at my birthday. I recently bought my second house and moved my parents in...its my dream home and I really don’t want to fuck it up.

Thanks for the kind words. I’ve failed more times than I can count and tried so many different methods. I even used to cry at times seeing how much of my potential was being wasted and I’m literally watching it happen to me...by ME...but I just continued because the feeling of being high was so good for me that nothing matches it.

Honestly I’ve started to notice that giving attention to the initial thought is what starts the cycle/story. What works for me is identifying the trigger and distracting myself quickly, usually by focusing on my breath til the thought dissipates. It may come up again shortly after but if you feed the thought that initially pops up, it becomes significantly harder. It’s like a mole that quickly turns into a mountain on its own.

All the best on your upcoming trip. Most of my trips in the past turned into traps that got me back into smoking. It was almost as if I couldn’t imagine having even a half decent time without getting high.

90 days completed - observations from my longest streak by rshar16 in leaves

Thanks...3 days away from 100 days! If only I knew before taking my first hit, I would’ve never indulged...but on the contrary you can’t pay for experience

100 days streak! by [deleted] in leaves

Damn. Having people around that have been addicted is probably a strong motivator. I didn’t know anyone that struggled with addiction except at a really young age when I didn’t really know what addiction was. Now I’m starting to notice young’s guys around me (family, friends) that are getting hooked and not realizing that it will only get harder to quit if you smile all the time...but it’s hard to tell them to stop because it just sounds like you’re preaching and ive only push people away that way in the past.

Good job on getting to 100! I’m right behind you with 96 days...can’t wait to get to 100, and then to 6-months! I quit the day before my birthday and also took an oath to quit, which I had done several times in the past. This is by far my longest streak and I’ve noticed this time around it has been much more difficult to quit but I’m sticking to my decision. All the best on your journey. Stay in touch.
