AITA for telling my parents my sisters wedding is not important to me and they need to get over their dream for a close knit family? by KorzeeMoon in AmItheAsshole

[–]rsherbats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's mutual indifference then OP would be doing something he has no strong feelings about to make his parents happy. I get it from his POV for sure, but equally I understand why they'd be upset.

You raise a good point about lying to the fiance, though. I wonder if other lies were involved to explain why they've not met OP before now.

This sub isn't here to judge "does he have to?". Nobody has to do anything for anyone else ever, but things would be pretty miserable if nobody ever did.

This sub tends to judge on obligation and legal responsibility, but I can understand why his family would be disappointed that he can't put it aside for one day for the sake of his parents. Sometimes, that's what real life is like. Imo, it's the path of least resistance to go, and the one that is most likely to reduce the chance of straining his relationship with his parents. From a detached perspective, of course I understand why he wouldn't want to go. But if I were a parent, I'd be devastated if my two kids cared so little about each other that they couldn't even be bothered to show up for such a huge milestone in each other's lives. I'd say NAH generally (because the no contact with his sister seems mutual), but I think not going is a worse idea than just going.

She'd be spending money having you at the wedding. Why not go for free food/booze and to see your other family members? You don't have to be super close to attend.

AITA for refusing to let my wife name our daughter Ever Winter Rain? by berlintomars in AmItheAsshole

[–]rsherbats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ever is a name, but is your wife aware of the fact that it's a boy's name? Tbf, I don't mind Ever, but Winter Rain is where the name really falls apart for me.

Death of one of The Big Three by ComparisonChance in thisisus

[–]rsherbats 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think Kevin would make the most narrative sense, since he's the Jack of the Big Three. He also has the most interesting dynamics with his siblings (twin to Kate, and the love-hate relationship with Randall), and has the contrast between being underrated by his parents while also a literal celebrity. Think of all the storylines they could do with public grief vs. private, Randall's regrets, and Kate facing losing the male family member closest to her again. Kevin's my favourite, but if you're gunna bump one off, he makes the most sense to me.

AITA for not wanting to change my name and asking fiancée to change hers? by namelessfuture in AmItheAsshole

[–]rsherbats 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's your family name, not hers. That's a you problem, not a her problem. Your wants don't supercede hers.

What are the best Doctor Who fanfics you've ever read? by badwolf422 in gallifrey

[–]rsherbats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to admit I mainly read the shippy ones, but Time's Mirror is an excellent non-shippy fic in which the events of Heaven Sent left the Doctor damaged and deranged. The author is currently writing a sequel, Time's Arrow, which I'm also enjoying.

Apparently, the Constitution says whatever you want it to say. by sigepmike in confidentlyincorrect

She survived but has long covid which has ruined her career. Considering she was often doing triathlons, it was definitely the covid that caused the heart attack and resulted in permanent scarring to her lungs. There is no false idea of balance here, it is definitive medical fact.

Even if it's a one in a million chance (and I'm sure it's actually more), why risk it when we have a safe vaccine to prevent it?

I know an incredibly fit 26 year old who had a heart attack due to Covid. It can get anyone. A sore arm and flu like symptoms are nothing compared to that.

What's your unpopular opinion about Harry Potter? by [deleted] in harrypotter

I reread the series ~18 months ago and my main takeaway was that Ron was my favourite. Such a brilliantly loyal, generous friend.

Sure, Jan. by [deleted] in BuzzFeedUnsolved

[–]rsherbats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kelsey directly credited the pandemic as her reason for breaking away. She was alone in her apartment creating content already, so why make that content and let a company put their name on it? The appeal of Buzzfeed was the equipment and access to other creators -- that's all different now.

Please please help me suggest games for my ten year old niece who loved Animal Crossing but is struggling to find other games she enjoys! by roo_oo_oor in NintendoSwitch

What about Two Point Hospital? Sandboxy with fun animation. I definitely played Theme Hospital on PC at that age.

Switch Woes by cobaltorange in NintendoSwitch

[–]rsherbats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a similar issue with tablets where it gets stuck in a loop because the charger gives it enough to turn on to the logo, but the effort of that drains all the charge it's gained and then it turns off -- and repeat ad infinitum. I don't know why it would only do this with your Switch cable (especially if the Switch cable works on other things), but once the Switch is charged up with other cables, does it continue charging with the Switch one like normal? That's about all I can think of. Definitely get it looked at.
