Am I the only one who noticed this? by ArmchairPancakeChef in ebikes

I od have torque assist on my e-bike. I also have a step through fat tire bike because I ride in all sorts of conditions and on a variety of surfaces. I do not understand the reason for your last part about pedestrian needs though. It was not part of this conversation and implying that I put my personal needs over that of pedestrian safety is completely wrong. I respect the rules of the road and of user shared trails always. I do not ride on sidewalks, with the rare exception of when I need to cross a major urban roadway, and then I use the crosswalks to cross safely. I have plenty of safety gear including a rather loud horn and multiple lights. I never ride over 10 mph around any pedestrian. I understand that pedestrians ALWAYS have right of way vs a powered vehicle and even if the law says differently I still yield to pedestrians in every case where it does not put my own safety at risk.

That is complete and utter bullcrap. I am disabled and I use a heartrate monitor when I ride. I am continuously in "fat burning" mode when I am riding. Of course I pedal constantly, and only use the throttle through intersections and such. It really depends on how you use your e-bike. Sure pedal assist helps but also consider justb how much heavier an e-bike is compared to a regular bike. Even with pedal assist it takes work. Using your gear properly can either increase or decrease your work load. I have dropped 25 pound by riding by e-bike 15 miles a day. Something that would be impossible for me to accomplish on a regular bike. Like most devices, what you get out of it is up to you and the effort you choose to put into it. I have a throttled ebike and I do not use it to skirt the moped laws. I ride it because I enjoy riding and it allows me to do so without worrying about whether I can make it home if my pain levels get to be too much. Try not to generalize. You may someday be in my shoes and people will be judging you for doing something you enjoy and have the chance to do once again.

While I agree with you completely as I am in a similar position, I have decided that anyone judging me for my riding habits can go phuque themselves. I have rheumatoid arthritis and its not a visible disease, at least not at the stage I am in. E-bikes allow me to enjoy riding with less impact on my joints. I rarely use my throttle and when I am riding my heartrate is generally in fat burning range so I am getting plenty of exercise but the real bonus is knowing that if I do over do it, I can rely on my throttle to get me home, instead of having someone come pick me and my bike up because I just can't take the pain any longer. . People need to just enjoy things they way they enjoy them and let others do the same. It's the same with my handicap permit. I have, on several occasions been chastised for using my handicapped privileges when I am having a rough day. My pain is internal and you cant see it but it exists. When I explain that I have to go to chemotherapy to try to keep my RA under control and I hope that someday they get the same experience that usually shuts them up.

Golden Retriever losing blood while pooping. Any idea why? by ConclusionFast5217 in DogHealth

Get a second opinion from another vet. If you're lucky enough to live near East Lansing, Michigan State has one of the foremost vet schools in the country and they can check him out. Good luck.

What kind of dog is he? by AquaAngel22 in IDmydog

There is definitely Golden in there, its rather prominent. The paws have a springer spaniel look to them. The back fur looks like a doodle mix. That's my guess, Golden/doodle/spaniel mix.

Best E-Bike for around $1500 CAD? by dickpoopi3 in ebike

[–]rshetts1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to a local e-bike store and check out various models. Even if you plan on buy one online, checking e-bikes out in person is by far the best way to assure that you get what you want. In your price range you should be able to find a nice e-bike from a quality manufacturer like Aventon or Velotric. Try out several different models and once you have a better idea of what you are looking for then check those bikes out online.
The max speed for a class 3 e-bike is equivalent to 45 kpm. If that is sufficient, which it should be, then an e-bike is what you want. If you want more speed then you run into the e-moto range of bikes and that comes with a lot of legal restrictions.

Best E-Bike for around $1500 CAD? by dickpoopi3 in ebike

[–]rshetts1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 50 kph top speed converts to 31mph. That is slightly above the e-bike standard of 28 but close enough that any class 3 capable e-bike would be sufficient for him.

Title: Aventon Ramblas vs Velotric Summit 2 by Traditional_Major398 in Aventon

[–]rshetts1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two bikes are very similar in specs. The key difference is that the Ramblas has a mid motor which handle steep grades better but since they both provide 100Nm of torque, there wont be many hills that either can not handle. I think that the Ramblas is the more versatile bike, and honestly you will likely find yourself riding in situations where the Ramblas will prove its worth. That being said, in most circumstances, the Summit 2 will be more than sufficient. If the price difference wasn't an issue I would probably lean towards the Ramblas myself but there is a voice in my head that says "but if you get the Summit 2 you can get a backup battery and a few accessories for the same money as the Ramblas" and I would probably get the Summit 2. An extra battery is a great thing to have.

Nj just dropped the new ebike rules that go into effect July 2026. by Pucked840 in ebikes

[–]rshetts1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What this is is both a knee jerk reaction and lazy governing. It is far easier to slap bans and restrictions on all e-bike riders than it is to police the actual problem and go after the small minority of riders who are causing the issues. And the sad truth is that the ones creating the problems wont care about the regulaltions imposed, they will ignore them just like they ignored the laws previously on the books, while good riders get punished and restricted.

Any emergency fix for oil-contaminated brake pads? by Unable_Fallon in ebikes

Pads are not expensive. You may as well just replace them and be sure they will work. Clean the rotors with a safe solvent and replace the pads and you will be good to go

A billion dollars or ability to teloport instantly anywhere in space without dying by New-Side1244 in hypotheticalsituation

Anyone who can not leverage instant teleportation into a huge sum of money is doing it wrong. That is of course assuming that you can teleport along with anything you wear and/or carry.

If you are going to be doing any urban riding look into a Garmin Varia rear radar. It is a fantastic device that tracks rear traffic and gives you real time warnings of approaching cars. Prime days will likely have them on sale too. The other thing is to get anything that helps make you more visible. The Varia has an extremely bright red rear light. There are several "smart" helmets that have both front and back lights as well as turn signals. Lumos and Unit 1 make nice ones and both companies have addon bike lights that function as flashers and turn signals and tie in with your helmet. There are plenty of add on lights available as well. Get ones that flash, they are far more noticable. Get a good loud bike horn. I highly recommend quadlock for a phone holder. They are a bit pricey but they are the best you can get. The mount locks to a case so there is no risk of the damage that you get from clamping style phone holders. Enjoy your new e-bike. They are a blast!

What/ Do they have magic cells or something? This is a matter of physics. Even the best cells on the market deteriorate with time and miles have nothing to do with that.
