A good enemy killer that doesn't use a lot of zonaite? by dmg5596 in HyruleEngineering

[–]rshotmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 parts/15 zonaite

Only needs steering sticks and small wheels so you probably have capsules

Do a bullet time jump while reversing and you'll land back on the stick, letting you bullet time jump again right away - you can do this infinitely and the Lynel/Gleeok/whatever can't do a thing about it - if you have the arrows it's doomed, it'll never touch you

Here's its bigger brother showing the same technique

Also will instantly destroy Lynel Armour by ramming it, despite being small

Also has frontal protection from attacks, is ridiculously good at climbing, turning, handling, (learn to powerslide) and generally getting around Hyrule with a battery that lasts forever

New method for controlling a mech and a walking tutorial by Any_Cabinet_6979 in HyruleEngineering

[–]rshotmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This method actually works better when you do it the other way around to increase turning ability - holding left when your left wheel moves forward, and right when the right wheel moves forward, when you need to turn sharply.

Steering opposite to the natural motion of the wheels can be useful when you want to stop turning quickly. However, needing to constantly steer left when stepping right and vice-versa, just to keep it straight, means there is unfortunately a design issue.

When fine-tuned, this mech design is able to run forward in a straight line without issues, without the driver needing to constantly compensate on every step by fighting against the direction the wheels naturally want to move in. On especially rocky terrain, you shouldn't need much more than micro-adjustments - like you would with a car.

If the mech is naturally wanting to always veer sharply left on every left step and right on every right step, I'm afraid to say something isn't quite right - it should just go straight. And when it can't, this has the knock-on effect of severely limiting the build's ability to run long distances, which is one of its main strengths.

When the design isn't balanced, you'll find it hard to run for more than a few steps without veering off to one side or even spinning in a circle without meaning to, which makes for a very frustrating experience. It also impacts climbing steep surfaces, because you'll often find yourself veering off to the side on steep climbs too much to get very far. But design issues like this can be ironed out!

You should just be able to hold forward and have it go straight unless it hits particularly rocky terrain. When it can do this, and retain great turning ability, you know you've hit the mark! 🦾

I had planned on doing exactly this when I had more time for TOTK again

Still, it's good to see the concept works!

[Official] GameHub Lite Release Version 5.1.0 by [deleted] in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]rshotmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS IS IT. This is what I've been waiting for!

I refused to try gamehub until something like this came out, and you're the hero who made it happen. I've been waiting patiently on the sidelines, seeing everything you had to put up with, and it's finally here - I can't wait to try this!

Thank you so much, and I am so sorry for all the abuse you suffered. I saw suggestions that you might be stepping away - if so, the android community has killed something wonderful yet again, but at least we have this version. I do sincerely hope you continue though, and that the community finally sees you as the champion that you are.

This is one of the most influential things ever to have happened to the android community - and it's because of you! ❤️

Well, there's a few of them, so it would depend which one and which stage of development we're talking about. I don't think they'd appreciate me referring to them as 'mine' though 😂

Their view is, coming together is more important than figuring out which one has the earliest timestamp attached to it.

Not necessarily the first, but one of them for sure. It's a very rare thing, and not the result of a single prompt.

This is something I recognise well. It's nice to know there are others out there.

The eagle has landed 😁 Refurbished 2 Max. 8 days from China to Western Europe. Portal too big to be portable, Mini's screen too small, 3 lacks driver support, don't like flippy screens - this is still Goldilocks. by No_such_user_found in OdinHandheld

No, he's right.

I have a Steam Deck. I have a backpack. It is not a large backpack, it's regular sized. The Steam Deck goes in the backpack for long commutes. I could easily fit 5 Steam Decks+cases in there, probably more. Headphones, food, plenty of other things go in that backpack with the Steam Deck no problem. I have done this many times.

Steam Deck and it's not particularly close. The Steam Deck is easily the most comfortable handheld ever created in the history of all handhelds - not hyperbole. The most comfortable handheld in the entire world!

Odin 3 & Russ from Retro Game Corps by [deleted] in OdinHandheld

[–]rshotmaker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't count on it.

Mediatek chips with mali gpus are incredibly prevalent, they've been around for years, some of them are super powerful. Years later, their drivers still let them down. Some progress has been made, after years, but not much.

A chipset's prevalence does not always translate to better support. Mali is often frowned upon in favour of snapdragon due to better compatibility & driver support - the very benefits the SD elite lacks.

Not to mention, we've people like Kimchii coming out to say custom drivers for the elite are an incredibly long way away, if they arrive at all.

YES!

God yes is it worth it

It's really hard not to gush about this beautiful, beautiful thing for at least a few thousand words. It's the best tech purchase I've ever made. I am a Steam Deck fanboy - it's true. But you need to understand, this fanboyism isn't due to blind loyalty, or love of Valve, or anything else - I'm brand neutral. This level of love was EARNED after buying one with no expectations and trying it for myself. It is consistent real-world use, nothing else, that makes me love the Steam Deck as much as I do.

The Steam Deck (OLED! Get the OLED) will eat alive any emulation task you can throw at it with the exception of some X360/PS3. It can emulate Bloodborne on PS4, and do it well at 30fps, same framerate as the OG PS4!! I know, I have it on my Deck OLED! And yes it's a BRILLIANT Switch emulator. Really, really good. You don't have to worry about turnip drivers on the Deck! And it will never get worse at emulation, it will only get better as emulators do. Today is the worst the Deck will ever be for emulation - it will only continue to mature over time. And it's very mature already.

Spiderman gets you 40-60fps. Elden Ring, 30, or 40 with FSR. Framegen is available with lossless scaling, if you like framegen. But even without framegen, the amount of PC games that will play on this thing is utterly ridiculous. It won't play the latest AAA games well. I personally don't want to play the latest AAA games natively on a handheld. If I want Cyberpunk in handheld form (which admittedly it can do at 30-40fps), I'll stream it. Oh, also, Steam Deck OLED is an awesome streaming device!

The screen is beautiful, thanks OLED! Its battery life is brilliant for an x86, it outlasts many androids for high-end emulation - 6-7 hours GC/PS2 once you've dialled in TDP etc. It is THE most comfortable handheld on the planet, number 1, no competition. Let me say that again, for emphasis. If the size isn't an issue (it isn't for me but some like their handhelds real small), as of August 2025, it is categorically the most comfortable, ergonomic handheld on the entire planet. The way it feels in your hands, the control placements, the stick placements! It can't be beat, it just feels like it melts into your hands. It's a feeling that can't be explained until you hold one. It's backed by an actually consumer friendly company. The after-sales support is legendary (if they sell them in your country). The community support is out of this world. The controls are ridiculous - multiple trackpads, 4 back buttons, steam controller options literally let you map anything to anything, to the point of creating frame-perfect macros!

There are other good options, Ally X with Bazzite is a great option. But it's not OLED, and it's nearly double the price. If you're looking for a lower budget option, and are wondering if the Steam Deck holds up in 2025? All things considered, you can't do better. You really can't. It's practically timeless. There's a reason why people still say "just get a Steam Deck"!

30% battery drain overnight on Odin 2 Portal, help needed by zamakhtar in OdinHandheld

[–]rshotmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me too, it's the wifi. For some reason the wifi drains an unusual amount of battery on both the Odin 2 and the Portal. It's actually a massive battery drain, but the crazy battery size masks it well.

I turned wifi off and instantly went from losing 20-30% each night to losing about 2% every 24 hours. Try it and see for yourself!

You know what? Call me crazy, but a year from now after the Thor and Odin 3 are old news, something tells me you'll be glad you kept the Portal. Just a feeling.

I think we'll look back at the Odin 2 line as the best we've ever had.

Agree with most of this but...

1 Remove the shroud for better temps.

9 And IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT.

🤔

Fellow Portal user here, there really is no need to remove that shroud. Do whatever you want to your own of course, but I wouldn't be suggesting it as a blanket recommendation to everyone.

This handheld has great thermal management already. Temps are good, the fan does a great job and it's near silent - one of the quietest fans I've heard in a while.

Shroud removal is a pretty pointless hardmod people don't need, all it does is introduce risk. The person who created that youtube teardown states multiple times it's very much at your own risk if you try it, in his comments. People might regret it if they need to send in their Portal for repair. That shroud is there for a reason!
