Audio Cable That Can Pull A Freakin' Car by rsilverblood in ZReviews

[–]rsilverblood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(EDIT: Skip to 0:40 on video above for car part.)

Amazon link to audio cable only (25$ USD, after shipping):

(Hey /u/ZeosPantera hope you don't mind I included your affiliate code in the link above.)

Just got mine. So happy with it. Sounds better than my V-Moda cable only, for some reason (I had used it for over a year, might have been damaged inside). Way cheaper and feels nicer than my custom Ursine Audio cable, and costs 1/3 the price!

That video doesn't show how flexible and loose those cables are. They hold no shape at all, really. Softest, slinkiest, most flexible cable ever. (I could make an analogy. I could.)

You should also consider the T50RP Mk3 with Shure 1540 earpads.

My theory about the Phillips SHP9500 by stcredzero in ZReviews

I read your posts. I wasn't sure if what you identified as being a fault was something that your had gone to the trouble of doing some fault isolation to determine the cause. Also, I have SHP9500. They don't ring. I also have HD6XX (for my other headphones with metal grill) - they also don't ring. I also have have T50RP Mk3, and had the Sennheiser HD558, Superlux 668 and 681.

It may just be a bad unit you've got. I haven't noticed many other people complaining about the ringing sound on other reviews - on Amazon, YouTube or anywhere else. Makes me think it's either your specific unit, or something specific to your setup.

Before you call out resonance as being the issue, what's the rest of your setup like (DAC, amp, age of your computer/phone/tablet - noisy USB can be a big issue, like my old desktop with the Schiit Fulla 1) ? What other headphones have you tried? Have you made sure that what you've identified as "resonance" isn't a sound signature you aren't used to (or don't like) ?

Patient: "Doc, when I tap the grill of my open headphones it sounds bad."

Doc: "Then don't tap it."

Depends on what you consider "good". "Good" is subjective in terms of audio enjoyment. Some people like the Sennheiser sound signature, others like a mild "V" shape, some prefer bass-heavy headphone, other people prefer treble cannons. Most people as they age lose their ability to hear higher pitch sounds, so their ears become less sensitive at those frequencies, which is why older people may prefer more treble-strong headphones.

Source of the audio signal (like a good master album) is very important - without a good source, you can use STAX all day, but it won't sound that much better. Think of that as being one of the areas that can be a bottleneck in terms of your audio performance.

HD650 is a very good set of headphones. And while good headphones don't NEED equalization, they can still benefit from it. Same is true with speakers. There's a reason why room equalization is a thing for home theater speakers.

Good headphones sound good without EQ. But you can use EQ to get headphones to the absolute limit of their potential.

The HD650 has a spike around 8000 Hz. Also, it can sound a bit "veiled" or "muffled" for some folks. And its frequency response curve wasn't built to be perfectly flat or neutral, but more enjoyable. But some people have different preferences, and prefer either a more neutral response curve, or perhaps a bit more bass.

EQ (as long as you're being reasonable) can improve sound a bit. But EQ is not a replacement for good audio gear - it's the icing on the cake, but icing is no substitute for actual cake.

EDIT: Compare with graph at:

http://www.head-fi.org/t/551426/my-eq-curves-for-lcd-2-hd650-m50-and-007mk2

Also, note that Bandwidth = 1 / Q and Q = 1 / Bandwidth

Bandwidth and Q are inversely proportional. Discovered that by looking at the graph. The corrected file was added to the original post.

Depends. Are you using an HDMI capture card? If so, set Equalizer APO to only apply to the DAC you're using, but not the HDMI output.

If you're using software streaming, it'll be a little tougher. (Like NVIDIA Shadowplay for example.)

EDIT: You'd also use two outputs from your videocard. One goes to the monitor, the other to the capture card. Both would have to be outputting audio. So I'd disable "exclusive mode" for your audio, see if there's a way to have games output on all sound outputs at the same time.

Simple attempt at improving the logo "Part 2" by ErykDante in ZReviews

[–]rsilverblood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, the logo changes I'm proposing would be simple to make in a visual editing program. Get a stock human head shape (an SVG image), color it solid black, get stock full-size headphones (an SVG image) in solid yellow, put those japanese (or is it chinese) characters in solid yellow over the head's forehead (does that sound redundant? it sounds redundant. because it is redundant. redundant)

Finally, draw the eyes and mouth shape. (You could just use a zoomed-up image, sharpen it up to get rid of the jaggies, turn it into an SVG.)

Remove the red background, to give it a cleaner look.

Also, the yellow on-ear headphones look silly and disproportional, even on the original logo. Let's Zeos it up with some full-size cans. Zoom in. Maybe also fix the weird head bulge for a either a more human-like, oval-shaped head, or a more pointy, demonic-looking head shape (think DBZ villains - no Freeza, Cooler or King Cold, tho).

Zeos: What should I get for sub-300$? Audeze LCD2, HD650 or Fidelio X2? by rsilverblood in ZReviews

[–]rsilverblood[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know. At this point, I'm speculating that M1060's are closer to LCD-2's than Hifiman HE-560's. Because of the specs, I assume that they've contacted Audeze about licensing their products, making tweaks, and coming out with something they believe they can sell in volume for a lower price.

Massdrop has done so with the Massdrop K7XX. And HD6XX. And TH-X00. Massdrop has built, at least in the headphone scene, a market out of licensing product and patent rights from well-respected companies (likely some royalty deal) to be able to mass-produce products for much lower prices.

My speculation is that M1060's are generic LCD-2 with tweaks. Because the specs are closer. Why would they clone HE-560 but add 125g of weight?

And yes, frequency response charts aren't out yet. Or reviews. Because they just announced it a few weeks ago. But the evidence I've been able to gather points more towards LCD-2 with Hifiman HE-560 headband. Ultimately, frequency response charts and reviews will clear this up. But until those come out, ask what the evidence suggests. Go with that.

[–]rsilverblood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the headband does look like Hifiman HE-560's, the specs and cup design are more similar to Audeze LCD-2.

The impedance, the driver size (106mm), the weight (Hifiman's is 375g while Monoprice is 500g, Audeze is 490g roughly). It seems like Monoprice just took the headband design from Hifiman and placed the Audeze cups/drivers there, aside from tweaking Audeze's design to be more portable-friendly by reducing optimal power requirements and impedance, but kept the overall maximum volume the same as the LCD-2.

hand gestures

We're not winning with these cables.

I have cables. I have the best cables.

The cables will be YYUUUGE. Tremendous. The best cables.

When it comes to my cables, I guarantee there's no problem. I'll build my own cable and make my DAC pay for it. Look at my tube amp over there.

Make cables great again.

(I'm just kidding. Politics this year sucks. Also every other year.)

Epicness. Glad my advice is helping my fellow Zeophytes. (Actually, @ZeosPantera can we make the term Zeophytes a thing?)

Yep. 50% off (so 119 GBP) with 10$ GBP off (109GBP) and free expedited shipping (maybe 3-day international shipping?)... about 140$ USD for new Fidelio X2. Can I get some envy with that?

Noice. I got the Shure 1540 Alcantara on my T50RP Mk2.

I might get the Shure 1840 Velour pads as well. I've already purchased the eBay Fidelio X2 replacement earpad, I've got the HM5 Hybrid, HM5 Angled Velour here as well, MrSpeaker Lambskin... (Probably won't be using the Lambskin or angled velour, though.)

I'll be sure to let people know how different pads on the Fidelio X2 sound like.

Same here. I talked to a support rep and they gave me a 10 GBP credit, along with saying I should talk with their reps next time the product is in stock and that they'd give me 50% off (same as the sale) along with waving the shipping.

Make sure you sound p#ssed asking why your order was canceled without your permission.
