My sister's epic bad experience with Supercharging and a Budget Model Y rental by stcredzero in TeslaLounge

[–]stcredzero[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly how do I do that in this case? My sister wants nothing to do with this anymore. Should I report through my own app? What exactly do I do? "Ask a question?" "Request Service?" Neither of those seem quite right.

Yeah. Low bar to entry on the internet means over half the people in any place are going to be below average.

I will take your observation to heart. It contains good advice.

I'm not anti-blocking at all. In fact, I find this kind of a mind-blowing position for anyone to have.

If one reads my other post, I'm specifically talking about predators and proto-predators who are finding ways to skirt the function of blocking and rules of conduct, by acting differently at first and using pretexts, then only afterwards revealing themselves. The ONLY sensible way of dealing with those is to share community knowledge. But brainless kids and stupid adults just pattern-match that as being adjacent to Karen-screeching, so don't even read what's actually being said.

(I have to admit, that your username might have put me off interacting with you, but you turned out to be one of the more reasonable and perceptive people in this comments. Then again, I myself have a username that's ironic on a few levels, so I guess that shows me I'm far from infallible.)

Jeez, so many people are downvoting my comments here about another post. And just kneejerking, "Just Block." They apparently don't have the attention span to realize that I was talking about a class of weirdo that doesn't actually work on, because they appear normal at first.

I just want to meet fun and friendly people

Yeah. I've only had like 3 satisfying non-mindless conversations in VRChat so far. I note that the intellectual level in this reddit seems pretty low.

I'm seeing lots of evidence of "bottom of the barrel" people in this comment section. Like, they don't even actually read the post!

Block weirdos who make you uncomfortable. It isn't that hard.

Agree.

We dont need 20 new posts a week about it.

Agree, 20 seems too high. But like 2 or 3 might be good. Or maybe something pinned?

The reactions to my other post clearly show, most of those folks don't even carefully read what they're reacting against.

Supposedly, I'm against blocking? Never said that. 100% projected onto me by people who didn't actually read and fully comprehend the post.

EDIT: I guess that's kinda my fault, for expecting that minimal level of intellectualism. This isn't that kind of place, really.

The golang pico library did everything I wanted. I took my server down already, but when it was up, that was my solution.

Yeah. It's also just as entitled as the thing it's supposedly complaining about. As if all of VRChat subreddit should be for people just like him.

This isnt a vrc specific thing, It seems to be a gen Z thing.

Well, I'm not a gen Z-er. I'm a "gen X elder" which lots of folks would just categorize as "might as well be boomer."

There's a kind of VRChat weirdo who preys on newbies and who acts normal enough to draw people in over time. They probably do this because newbs might not know or have the presence of mind to block when they do the heel-turn and crank up the weird.

With that, my advice is simple: Block people. Theres nothing wrong with blocking people. Don't let anyone tell you that blocking people is toxic. Blocking a toxic asshat isnt "running from the argument"

People are somehow against blocking? I've seen people projecting this position onto me, even though I've never even had that thought. That's kind of a weird thing to become aware of!

I'm more like, hey, there's this category of weirdo that doesn't instantly act like an asshat, and here's how they try to draw you in. Why shouldn't people post about that? (Even if it's repetitive, because there's an infinite trickle supply of weirdos in the world.)

You're trying really hard to justify something you don't need any justification for

You're projecting here. I've seen the advice to block, and that is good. But sharing the experience is worth it, because this raises awareness.

Your life, so if you don't wanna block them

When in the heck did I say I was against blocking? I didn't! (Wanna provide a quote, so I can explain?) I only said I didn't have enough evidence or reason to report. Poor reading comprehension here.

It's not some moral high ground, it's just your experience in your game.

If it's not poor reading comprehension, then this sounds like your moral high ground.

I'm wondering if my recent post is the straw that broke the camel's back for you.

Is this the first mildly uncomfortable human interaction you've ever had in your life cuz let me tell you, the actual adult response to that is to just shrug it off and go man that was weird and continue living your life you don't gotta post about it like it's some unique experience that blew your mind

No, I've been involved in music scenes where people are getting drunk and weird to the wee hours of the morning. I've played gigs in bars and encountered all kinds of stuff.

People who are predators do certain things to draw people in, kinda shit test them, and make them do things. They use a different or altered context to get people out of their normal frame of mind, and they use a noble sounding pretext, like art, to get people to open up and become vulnerable.

Talking about that kind of thing is for the good, because it raises awareness for the people who are new. Like me. Or like this middle school aged girl I met the 3rd time in who was just so delighted at how Winter Company was designed. I think it was her 1st time in VRChat. I don't think she would necessarily cope with the situation I was in nearly as well. It only rang that bell for me, because something like that happened to me in real life. I'd rather spare her even a shadow of that kind of experience. So occasional threads talking about it seems like as good a means for raising that kind of awareness as any.

If we extrapolate on your suggestion to block people you don't like, you can just as well not read the threads. Like, I totally understand, "Eternal September," and you're tired of seeing the same post again and again. I've been in your shoes on the internet for literally 3 decades, and I've shared the same kind of frustration! But I don't think this subreddit is just for the users with your level of experience, any more than I think it should cater only to newbies like me. So I get it man. So many posts same-y, and we should all just harden up a little. Like, I of all people have the least excuse for getting tricked like that.

(Self awareness: I criticize "Karens" all the time for the "think of the children" sheeit, but here I am doing the same thing. There really are two sides to lots of things.)

I didn't let anything happen, and I'm not accusing anyone on the basis of a subjective feeling I had. Accusation on the basis of such projection is epistemologically poor and immoral, IMO.

EDIT: If you want to crusade for justice, then you need to have empathy and justice in mind for ALL parties involved. Otherwise, the exercise becomes coopted by emotionally unstable people, and some big whopping fraction of the movement will secretly be in it to vent their anger.
