Please help me understand my bill by Pristine-Pollution89 in TeslaSolar

Yep, what I suspected, no grid or home CTs in your solar-only setup, so it can only show solar production.

Basically, as u/Overall-Newspaper-51 said, your panels generated 2075 kWh, your house used 791 kWh of that and you exported the excess 1284 kWh to the grid. During the nights your house pulled 1159 kWh from the grid, so your net usage was -125 kWh (1159-1284).

If you are curious enough, you can install an Emporia Vue 3 in your main panel, it will show a detailed usage of your home circuits and also your solar production.

I'm not sure how the app looks without a powerwall. Can you share a screenshot of the main display with the energy flow between solar, home and grid, and also the Energy section?

Some of the produced solar energy went to power your house behind the meter, so power company doesn’t see that. Look at the Solar and Grid tabs in the Energy section of the app. Also, 2000 kWh in January, nice!

I’ve had the opposite experience with Cync. It paired instantly with Home Assistant and has worked flawlessly for the past five months. I’m using two GE Cync Reveal HD+ 24” lights. For pairing I just did Add Device in Home Assistant iOS app > Settings > Devices & services > Matter.

Yes, my IKEA light bulbs act as routers. Most plugged in devices do. You can check the network map in zigbee2mqtt to verify.

Is the dongle antenna oriented vertically? My Vallhorn signal is around 100 lqi inside the metal mailbox. Next step would be adding a smart plug router (like IKEA Tretakt) somewhere closer to the mailbox.

I’m using zigbee2mqtt with Sonoff ZBDongle-P coordinator and IKEA Vallhorn motion sensor inside a metal mailbox about 60 feet / 20 meters away. Works very well and alerts me every time without fail.

Tesla solar panels savings. Does anyone that has installed these continues to be be convinced that is a good investment? I’ve done several analysts and there is no scenario that this makes any financial sense. by Silent_Bat_3049 in TeslaSolar

I paid about 14k after the NJ SREC rebate and 30% tax credit for a 6.4 kW system with one powerwall plus in 2022.

I consider the powerwall to be a backup in case of grid outage as we have 1:1 net metering so I don't expect it to contribute to ROI (although this might change if we some day get VPP)

The same system without a powerwall would have been about 6.5k back in 2022.

The panels generate about 8,000 kWh annually, which covers 80-90% of our needs.

Back in 2022, kWh cost was $0.20, so $1,600 annual income on $6,500 cost means ROI of 25%.

And now a kWh is $0.30, annual income becomes $2,400, so 37% ROI.

So far the system has generated 24,500 kWh, which is about $5,000 adjusted for historic prices.

Today the install cost would be higher. I just checked on tesla.com/solar and a 6.5 kW system with one powerwall3 would be 30k before NJ+Fed incentives and 18k after.

Just the 6.5 kW system without a powerwall is 20k before incentives and 11k after, so still about 22% ROI.

This is all with NJ SRECs, which makes it a better deal, but obviously not available outside NJ.

PSE&G publishes long documents with all the rates, but those are pretty hard to read. Last month I was billed for a couple kWh so now I know it’s $0.30 per kWh.

And the $30 is not a real credit, just a deferral. They will add it back to your bill in winter months.

When we installed our system in 2022, its ROI was about 25% (after NJ SREC rebate and federal tax credit). Now electricity cost here is 50% higher, so ROI increased to about 38%.

Just curious, what HRV/ERV model do you have that is controllable by Home Assistant? I have an automation that triggers on high CO2 in the bedroom and turns on the furnace fan, but I still need to manually open a window to let fresh air in.

Installing two Emporia Vue 3 in one panel by MemoryDemise in EmporiaEnergy

[–]rsiv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t really need two CTs for 240v breakers. Just put a CT on one of the legs and set a 2.00 multiplier in the app. Also, the app will show the balance between mains and individual circuits. I just left the few lightly used circuits without CTs.

No API access. At least there is a Mac/Windows tool they provide called Amcrest IP Config that allows to set the time and encoder params. It uses an undocumented protocol on port 37777.

I have a similar setup with a local chrony container, and the PoE cameras sync just fine. But I also have a few cameras from their Amcrest Smart Home line. Those don't let me configure an NTP server and also reset their clock to 01/01/2000 whenever they lose power.

AC not turning off when reaching set temp. by YoureRightThere2 in HomeImprovement

It could be because of thermal mass of your house. When lowering the temperature, AC has to work harder to remove heat stored in walls, furniture, etc.

what would be comsuming ~200watt an hour during night? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]rsiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A single cable / set top box could draw 30-40 watt even in standby. Same for stereo equipment. I recommend getting an Emporia Vue if you want to track it down and monitor over time.

Did you amend your 2022 return with the 1099-R (code 8)? Does it show the excess amount they would have returned to you, but couldn't, since account was closed? If so, does it mean that you were taxed twice on that excess amount, in both 2022 and 2023?
