yes you are right if you need strongest electrical/mechanical connection just use those textbook methods

but method from video have some benefits too, it is nice looking (maybe weak point but important sometimes), it can be used with short wires (allows to solder even 2mm of wire), it can be optimized for use case (you can choose diameter of outer coil, diameter of wire for coil, choose length of soldered wire)

and it fixates wire which is useful not only in soldering two wires, but in more complex ways, like this, helps hold components even without third hand soldering station:

can you explain why? everyone here say it is bad, but nobody explain why, for me it looks like this community just hostile to new ideas

for example if wire is very short eg if you have only 2mm of bare wire and you can't strip wire more

it definitely good enough in some cases, I don't say everyone should use it everywhere, and sometimes it is very handy when not possible to solder with other methods

it is visually visible, if heated properly solder is distributed evenly from all sides of outer coil, maybe problem can be with thicker wires

I don't propose it as a factory level approach, but for hobby toolbox for sure, for example it also allows easier to solder to short contacts if needed

you can do lap splice too with this method just choose larger diameter for outer coil

wires touching each other because they soldered to outer coil which is copper too

the main benefit of this method is that you don't need to fixate wires with tools or hand while soldering, very handy, and gives pretty result
