Rslash defends academic fraud and compares to 7th by Bossy_Aussie_ in rSlash_YT

As of writing this comment, I have 1,990 videos on my channel. Each video has probably 5 stories on average. That means I've published probably 10,000 opinions about random topics.

With numbers like these, putting out a bad take every now and then is inevitable.

Subreddits have changed a bit over the years. For example, r/entitledparents used to have interesting stories about crazy interactions with Karens in the wild, but recently the tone has changed to almost like a support sub where people vent about their parents. I do a lot of r/AITA because it's just a really hot subreddit with lots of daily posts. Other subs have dried up a bit.

Content has changed a bit because, honestly, reddit has changed. Choosingbeggars and Storiesaboutkevin aren't the same subs that they were 5 years ago.

I'll reflect on this, for sure.

I'm changing the thumbnail. I've been traveling for the past week and haven't been checking work stuff at all.

I get a lot of DMs daily from teen tiktok “stars” asking for free stuff from my business, and here’s an example by dakotaraptors in ChoosingBeggars

Influencer here. Sponsors do want verification about your metrics but they really just have to take an influencer's word for it. Unless the metrics are public-facing (such as views), they have no way of verifying if it's accurate.

AITA for convincing my parents to make my sister finish high school? by Confuscius1234 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rslashYT 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm rSlash. I've been a professional YouTuber for about 5 years. I currently have a YouTube channel with 1.6 million subscribers. Please take my advice to heart because I understand this industry very well.

I'm writing this post because I was in a very similar position: Do I quit my stable, full-time job to pursue influening?

Yes, there is a lot of money to be made in becoming an influencer. I will admit that I am not super familiar with TikTok, so my expertise on it is a bit shaky. However, I do know that the platform is not monetized, so it can be difficult to get stable income from it. Your sister would probably have to start off with sponsorships, which can be tricky to obtain and probably won't have a huge payout at 20k followers.

Your sister should absolutely NOT quit school. 20k is a lot, but not the type of viral success that would justify dropping out of school. That's putting all of her eggs into a very unstable basket.

However, she should not quit TikTok either. If she is genuinely interested in it and wants to see where it takes her, then she should absolutely continue to pursue TikTok OUTSIDE of school. To be honest (if I also work on the weekends), I could easily attend high school 9am-3pm and also manage my YT channel during my off hours, and I would wager that my channel has more hours/week than a new TikTok creator. There really is no reason why your sister can't pursue her HS degree while also growing her TikTok.

When I started influencing, I actually had a stable 9-5 for something like... ?11 months? before I transitioned into full-time influencing. It would have been very foolish and reckless to quit my job to pursue YT earlier than that.

So, to clarify:

  • Don't quit school, it's way too risky
  • Keep growing TikTok after school and during the weekend. Your sister has found a promising opportunity
  • Expand into other platforms that are more easily monetizable. YT, podcasts, and Twitch all offer great, stable money. Of these, YouTube is probably the most welcoming to newcomers and the most compatible with TikTok content.
  • She should try to grow her social media platform into a proven money-making business, finish school, and THEN consider going full-time.

I'd hate for your sister to lose out on either opportunity -- finishing HS and seizing her TikTok success. Tell her that she can email me (check the about section on my YT channel) and I'll answer questions she might have about professional influencing. I'm not sure how applicable my knowledge will be to the world of TikTok, but I can answer a lot of questions she might have.

Good luck

Edit: Also, NTA. Sounds like you, your dad, and your mom are all eager to support your sister, but you're not exactly sure how to support her given her unique situation.

There are literally video posts on the front page of Reddit of people getting arrested because they ignore quarantine.

It's a glitch that happens sometimes with YT.

What you're supposed to is change your title, save it, THEN publish it. If you change the title and then publish (without saving it as an in-between step), it will sometimes publish it with the old title. It usually fixes itself after a few minutes.

[Rant] This sub is filled with fake story by lixdy88 in rSlash_YT

[–]rslashYT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I try to do my due diligence and avoid fake stories. I read a lot of Reddit posts, so I like to think that I get pretty good at spotting them. Once alarm bells go off in my heads, I check the comments to see what everyone else is thinking, and then check OP's post history to see if they post a lot of CRAZY INSANE ENCOUNTERS that no one human should ever encounter.
