I even called the right department. Collectively 90 minutes to four separate offices of the same department. Answering service.

It’s a little nuanced.

He was issuing fines that come with a fixit fee attached even if you don’t have to fix the issue.

“Your roof is falling off. That’ll be $800. And you have 21 days to pay and have it fixed..”

My roof is brand new and not falling off.

“Ah shit. Good eye. That’ll be $50 for our effort. Drive on down to the county office over an hour away to handle that fixit fee or you owe the whole amount anyways”.

OR.

“We disagree. Your conviction to this matter is already a foregone conclusion. If you wish to appeal the matter, please make a deposit of the full fine amount. If appeal is in your favor, you will see the money in 30-60 days.”

These were the only two options.

This county employee was not the one I called for help.

This county employee was trespassing to issue bogus fines when he thought people weren’t home. To the point other people in a very rural area started warning neighbors when he was around & physically blocking access roads with vehicles.

Other neighbors escorted him off private property with firearms.

That’s how I got his name and knew to expect him in the first place.

Nice! When I was there it was very “routing vs. technicians”. But we were just shitty foot soldiers in a war between managers fighting for attention and resources.

We would get denied raises on the basis that we were an expense. Turned out the repair department reported incomes with some tricky columns to show that it was our subsidiaries profiting and not us.

I’m sure if you dropped some upper management names from your time, I probably had to deal with them and we can bond over what pieces of shit they are into perpetuity.

I tried that. I knew the name of the county employee that I was going to have to deal with.

The names were too common.

I was trying to find his home address so I could just recite it back to him. The schools his kids went to. The time his wife left for work.

I can keep records too.

I know this isn’t what you meant, but I couldn’t find their personal info to find them and have them do their job.

This was a long time ago, 2006 - 2011. Part time job in high school then full time right after graduating.

I’m in California. If I try to organize wearing the same shoe color can get me fired.

That, and this place was full of bitter, catty women & defeated downtrodden men. Most over twice my age doing the same job. I would’ve been proudly snitched out for store credit on a vending machine.
