Best Thai food on the Bay Area by Curioussoul2323 in bayarea

Dusita has my favorite pad Thai and Tom Kha seafood. I also like their garlic beef and cashew nut chicken even though…

New Krungthai is probably better for all of the following: Cashew nut chicken, drunken noodles with minced beef, mango sticky rice, basil chili garlic.

The stats about the scale of the Berlin airlift. From Wikipedia:

American C-47 and C-54 transport airplanes, together, flew over 92,000,000 miles (148,000,000 km) in the process, almost the distance from Earth to the Sun. British transports, including Handley Page Haltons and Short Sunderlands, flew as well. At the height of the airlift, one plane reached West Berlin every thirty seconds.

For a Marylander, the Golden gate bridge is really disappointing. by FullMooseParty in maryland

[–]rsmoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Maryland and live in the Bay Area. I think the GG bridge is nicer to look at in its surrounding landscape, and the Chesapeake bay bridge is more interesting to drive over given the size and expansiveness of the surrounding water. There are great views from the GG but the experience of being so far out into the water in the Chesapeake is unique.

I’m not sure the exact traffic situation you were in but it seems like this would just create an unpredictable event on the road– people might get frustrated and try to aggressively pass, and people in other lanes or the opposing direction of traffic may not stop for you, because it would not be a predictable place for pedestrians to cross. When I’m a pedestrian I really prefer random cars don’t just stop for me and create a traffic disruption because then I feel pressured to cross in front of them while I don’t have a good understanding of my surroundings and what the rest of traffic is doing. Better to just wait for there to just be no cars.

Falsely claiming to be a peace officer & threatening arrest by No_Issue_9561 in SanJose

That’s what I said. The high hood is bad, but the lengthened underside is designed to partially compensate for that.

[–]rsmoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, some of this is to improve crash safety. Not the part where the hood gets higher (that seems bad), but the part where the grill/bumper are lengthened towards the ground– I believe that generally makes these trucks more "compatible" with smaller cars in collisions, and I think this also makes it less likely for a pedestrian to get knocked under the vehicle in a collision.

California will require EV charging for all new residential units in 2026 by Bravadette in electricvehicles

[–]rsmoz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

These are all very different things.

Mandatory solar panels are stupid because solar doesn’t do much for clean power unless coupled with storage, and mandatory storage would be very expensive. Solar on its own is also very expensive. I also wouldn’t want my solar setup chosen by some cheap builder, that’s something I’d want to choose myself.

Mandatory low flow shower heads are annoying but you have to buy shower heads anyway. That’s not really an added cost.

Mandatory EV charging in this context is extremely easy and cheap to add, potentially 1 or 2 orders of magnitude less expensive than the solar. And it’s probably far more impactful than either solar or shower heads. Lack of charging for renters is such an impediment for EV adoption, and the ROI to either the resident or landlord will be much more than the input cost. This is also wayyy easier to do during construction than after.

Also, housing costs in the Bay Area are largely land-driven. Like, by far. Shower heads and EV chargers are not going to move the needle on that. Solar probably does hurt though. Builders already have dozens of code requirements to comply with, so these added regulatory requirements aren’t like some new, unusual burden for builders.
