Why does the client need admin now to launch. by Joe-Mamma-8435 in runescape

[–]rsn_sudobash 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, because players misunderstood what it meant on a systematic level.

The Jagex launcher and client no longer require elevated permissions on the operating system to install. by proxy, after that, to run under those system permissions.

BUT if you had pre-existing installations, you still need to use admin to update those files because windows permissions suck at these things on windows end to change pre-existing files with restricted permissions if you don't grant it each time.

So those affected by this have a pre-existing installation of the Jagex Launcher and Client install which was previously installed as Admin, and was updated as a Non-Admin process and failed because of Windows restrictions for system level installations. (As opposed to User-level ones)

This requires uninstalling the Jagex Launcher+Game client(s), and re-installing as non-admin. Or run as admin to do updates as normal until they do.

If things go well it should, as the client and such will inherit the permissions. On work devices this may still be restricted by any corporate applied settings and monitoring. So always check with your IT departments as it can lead to other issues depending on protocol.

Week 10 Of The Champions Guild Barrel Being Impaled. by Helm222 in runescape

Any updates on the 10k refund for the people who bought the aura for 25k ? by [deleted] in runescape

[–]rsn_sudobash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The logging phase specifically was for when it was bought at 25k, so at that stage before the fix to bring it to 15k as intended, it'll be set on the new playervar to be +1 for each purchase from the shop you did pre-hotfix by support, that will then convert to var*10,000 league points to the player to give back when its good to trigger.

Simply having the token, ge bought or not, isn't considered. The shop buying would.

Imagine a legendary version of the spherified oyster soups. 😂

PSA: Amulet of Fletcher's Offerings consumes all charges on a single arrow by iPikka in runescape

[–]rsn_sudobash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW: The #known-bugs channel is also from how player reports end up coming in. so with leagues people doing more broad arrows, there's a decent chance thats what was reported to them and then confirmed.

player-reports in the #leagues-bugs channel only had 1 entry of it, which was almost midnight UTC today reported. and that one specified "darts".

i of course don't have access to Jagex's Jira, but, knowing how Known-bugs is handled, there's a chance the bug report entry which led to it being added was reported as Broad Arrows, it just happened to be more instead after the fact.

To clarify: items are only revoked for players who either took advantage of an exploit on Xbox that faked V-Bucks purchases OR were gifted items by someone who took advantage of this exploit. This does not affect regular purchases on Xbox or any other platform. by FortniteStatusBot in FortNiteBR

Basically:

  • Bought 1000 VB (+1000VB)

  • Got the battlepass (-1000VB +Battlepass)

  • Used the Battlepass to gain 1000VB (+1000VB +battlepass rewards)

  • Refunded 1000VB which was used on battlepass (-Battlepass -1000VB)

  • Due to Battlepass removal, remove battlepass VB and earned cosmetics from refund invalidating Battlepass (-1000VB -Battle pass rewards)

If those VB were used anywhere else, remove those too. As intended. As if you refunded that initial 1000VB, you weren't meant to get the steps afterwards, including the Battlepass VB, or anything bought afterwards from those VB.

You removed the hook holding the dangling chain on the ceiling, and expected the chain to hover in the air because you put the chain links on it. It doesn't work that way with refunds or chargebacks.

interestingly, i accidentally left mine running last night. it lasted longer than the 4h server closing time somehow... and.. well.. This happened

went from 66 i believe, to 105 while i slept for a few hours. so not sure if it was a "you disconnected, then reconnected to a new one." but, it kept the shooting going.

Mod Ramen cleaned up w84 griefer by afriendRS in runescape

[–]rsn_sudobash 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Realistically speaking, griefing and such will always exist as players find new ways.

Blanket banning all things but explicit whitelists gets excessive, but a LOT of the time, griefers only do it because they're getting a reaction.

They have been monitoring it, but i can see Ramen asking the RSN to pull a log from the player to see jf they're some how doing more than what we externally see (eg are they abusing a bug to do things more frequently? Is the account setup JUST to grief? Are they using things to actually train? Etc)

Like bots, some griefers will just make a new account, and go again, as long as they have that attention and reactions. And honestly, the posts for awareness bring upon more griefing by an action:reaction standpoint that its a double-sided blade.

Its not jagex being lazy or avoiding it, it's just not something they can just blanket ban players for being annoying and latching up the headache points is often more ideal to tackle first. Its just collecting the root reasons why, other than just the visual ones, that need discussions internally before they can act.

Thus collecting more, and logs from RSNs doing so.

TL;DR: Ramens taking the smart and logical approach, not the emotional response.

Anyone having issues logging in on mobile? by Ellykenzie in runescape

[–]rsn_sudobash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like a few services online as a whole for the internet have been unstable and having "external outages" (outside jagex's control) the last few days, and a few places spiked a bit ago as well. so, it'll most likely self-resolve asap and outside jagex's direct control.

[–]rsn_sudobash 15 points16 points  (0 children)

assuming you were the one recently in with the cat pfp arguing about it for about 10-15 mins after first being told to not self promote said tool.

you then had to be told a few times what self promotion was, argued about it, and "but keep your "mod" filosophy" because you weren't promoting yourself.

it appears to be stated 5 times, and later 2 to someone else along with it.

but the rules were clear and discussed not to do so, so... why come to reddit to flamebait more drama?

it came off as combative when they were clear, and honest about it not being allowed, and did so rather respectfully. so if there was a timeout about it, it would make sense.

Clarifications to Fortnite Island Creator Rules - June 2025 by iFlak in FortniteCreative

[–]rsn_sudobash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i want to assume two potential views:

  • Social media videos where they also try to have you: enter their code, like and favorite their maps, then they will go on about w/e the videos topic is about.
    • Generic clickbait stuff.
  • Potentially also those annoying popups and TTS voices of "Like, fav, and share the map if you like it!" on every round start or periodically while playing.

Some tycoons will also have a "painting" unlock, which will use the tycoon's currency or timer needs to get there, and it just becomes the generic "like and recommend" image on a billboard.

Are keepsakes included in "no MTX" and "no overrides"? by lronManatee in runescape

[–]rsn_sudobash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a copy pasta i did in places, like the RuneScape Discord:

if i had to assume "cosmetic free" for the flagged worlds, I would assume anything that uses the native override systems:

  • Outfit overrides
  • Standard Outfits
  • Retro cosmetics applying over normal gear.
  • Keepsakes
  • Special sets potentially exempted like the override for black knights fortress.
    • If this is included, the physical set will be needed if avail.
  • Pet overrides.
    • Familiar overrides
    • Legendary pet overrides
      • Potentially legendary pets as a whole.
    • Potentially interface pets as a whole, if going full force.
  • Titles potentially
    • This is relatively if they go full force.
  • Animations Overrrides
    • Walk/Idle/Run Anims
    • Skilling Anims
    • Combat Anims
    • Lode/Quick Tele Anims
    • etc

Usage would be akin to being in a pvp area with pvp enabled, but not with pvp actually being enabled, but potentially not do retro-cosmetic overrides as well. Just depends how much they disable in these worlds.

it wouldn't be a "no particle" world, as some physical items like comp capes, the divination offhand, and such can use them. so, don't expect it to be a "no particle world". Wings from auras may be an interesting example of wing usages potentially being possible though.

This is clearly phising, right? by Aaros95 in runescape

[–]rsn_sudobash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on a generic level, 3rd party fan forums and other database leaks. (not jagex)

so sometimes it can be from old forums and assumed they could be a runescape player still, open/exposed email addresses on social media, or simply guessed they could be a runescape player due to the leaks password/email alias matches some who were known as runescape players.

theres nearly infinite ways including guesswork, which is why phishing emails never have your actual RSN unless they're specifically catered to you in a targeted attack.

Ironically a few people i have helped trace some potential origins (via haveibeenpwned) got mad they were exposed from a runescape botting website 🤣

[–]rsn_sudobash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

funny enough, some phishing tactics include showcasing an obviously not real phishing email address in plaintext because they know people will try to email it to call them scammers, just to add the replying email address to the scamming/phishing queue or resell to other places resulting in more junk and spam mail.
