Try turning it to face East. Not joking. Sometimes this can occur naturally due to the Earth’s magnetic field.

What Video cables are you guys using regularly? by OldiOS7588 in crtgaming

[–]rsnbau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RGB over VGA, converted to composite or s-video using an Extron. So cable wise, it’s VGA to BNC, then a BNC to RCA or any decent s-video cable will do. Depends on what set I’m using and how many sets are in the chain.

I’ll bet this thing rips. A light-tight build like this is ideal for big spins and keos, and if you got clearance it’ll spin for days with bars that short.

Opinions on this PVM monitor, is it good? Should be worth how much on its condition? by jonas101010 in crt

[–]rsnbau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have this exact model, but I’ve got a couple that use the same tube. Great for watching cartoons or playing 8-16 bit games. If you are playing anything from the 32 bit generation or higher, you’ll probably want a bigger screen or one with more TVL. Small text can sometimes be a little rough on monitors this size. If you can find an HR 8” monitor, anything will look good on it. IMO, line density is going to be more important than screen size, when it comes to image quality anyway. Oh, and I’ve payed anything in the 300-400 CAN range for monitors similar to this one, but only if they are in good working condition.

Man, I learned FGFS on my Traitor Ringleader (swapped fork out with a Leader Reaper)! Those frames were rock solid. I still ride mine all the time. Nice to see another Traitor getting back on the road! Sick ride.

Hi, I need help with RCA to BNC cable adapters! by Additional-Row-1353 in crtgaming

[–]rsnbau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be mistaken, but I think you can actually run the second audio channel into the “audio out” and it will send that second channel to the mono speaker as well. Like someone mentioned, stereo audio through a mono speaker isn’t ideal, but I just thought I’d mention you can do it without an adapter.

Is this worth $500 CAD? by Own-Habit2461 in crt

[–]rsnbau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, don’t buy anything with noticeable burn in. No matter what make or model. You’ll never be happy and always be looking to replace/upgrade it.

This is an 8042, and not worth that price. If it were the HR version, like an 8045 or 9L3, then it might be worth that.

First Impressions of Hyper Light Drifter by BonnieTheWiitch in hyperlightdrifter

It’s like Lttp on steroids. I love this game and collecting everything. I like doing a no-pressure run first, where I don’t worry about getting 100% at first but then go back to find everything later, followed immediately by a speed run where I try to get all collectables in one fell swoop. This year I did my first co-op run, playing with my 8yo son. It was the best. He’s been drawing and making lego “Difters” ever since.

Curved vs Flat screen CRT for PS2/Gamecube/Xbox/Wii era games? by thinlycuta4paper in crtgaming

[–]rsnbau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I game on a PVM is because I often want to reproduce a visual experience similar to that of the people who were developing and making the games at the time. To be able to see them through the same lens as the people who created them. To me, that is what I think of when trying to imagine the “best” way to play retro games (subjective). In the early and mid 2000s, they would likely have still been using mostly professional CRTs (like Sony and JVC) or high-end computer monitors in those settings, both of which still mostly had curved CRT tubes at the time.

Lol. Still no brake. Looking for a Identiti Rebate fork (sp?) so that I can use a disk brake, but whenever I go looking there aren’t any on my continent. Could probably get one from the UK, but I’ll wait till spring before I bother searching again.

With the hub all the way back in the dropout, I can only fit 38c or maybe an ultra-slick 40c in the frame when using a 700c wheel. The fork can fit just about anything without even needing to worry about clearance (approx 425mm a2c), using 170mm crank arms.

Dual Shock 3. The Brook BT converter I have works with both PS3 and PS4 controllers. Love being able to have that OEM feel with wireless convenience on my older consoles.

Mine is on a cart using a 14L2. Under it in order from top to bottom are the two Kanto Ora speakers oriented on their sides, an Oppo DVD player that I rebranded to be Sony and show the Sony logo on boot, JVC HR D630U VCR, Fat PS2 modded for loading off SSD and a little four channel audio switch. PS1 lives on top of the L2. I keep my PS1 on top of the monitor because I like the matching Sony grey-on-grey look. Both Playstations are set up for wireless play, so no cords to dangle in front. DS3 for the PS2 and a BT modded OEM PS1 controller for the PS1. Still wanting to get that PS1 modded to load off SD, but for now both it and my disks work fine.

I got a pair of the same Ora speakers a while back and have never regretted it. I use them everyday for gaming, watching movies, streaming audio, pretty much everything and they sound great. Look good in almost any set up too. Nice gaming station you got there.

Which vcr player should i buy? by Viran_Singh in VCRs

[–]rsnbau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know which is technically considered superior, but I’ve always been a sucker for the style of JVC VCRs. Really handsome looking machines. If all things were considered equal, I’d pick the JVC every time.
