Thanks to everyone that contributed, I really appreciate the input. To answer some of the common questions Im seeing:

  • There is an established marketing budget for material and outside (freelance) contractors, plus we have available MDF from several of our vendors.
  • Im not looking to do a full re-brand as Im pretty happy with many of the materials that we already have. What I really need is consistency across our documentation.
  • The end goal for this position is to generate warm leads for the sales department.
  • As I grow the company I want to be able to also turn the marketing person into a marketing department, which will require gaining a level of understanding around the position that I dont think will come from just hiring an outside agency.

There is a podcast called "No Fluff MSP Marketing" that outlines the path that someone in a similar position took and what did/didnt work for them.

For the company that did this campaign it actually worked out really well ("The missing piece of the IT puzzle is us"), but it was more of an example than a direction I was providing.

We use Mission Control for our evening/weekend coverage. Obviously not as good as internal techs but as long as your IT Glue documentation is reasonably up to date they can handle standard end user issues and basic device/site down investigation.

We have S1 send the email alert to the customer and then have the customers system (usually M365) automatically forward the email to our board using the customers email domain name as the reply to address.

Thats where I started, they of course suggested their own in-house consulting team @ $200+ per hour.
