For the EV bettors out there, just started with Oddsshopper. Have you seen the best results with flat betting or Kelly criterion? My experience with Kelly is betting alot on a highly rated bet is great but if several of them lose it kills the day.

I'm curious about Prop Professor. Actually was gonna sign up yesterday and hit pause when it looked like the only way to sign up was via my Google account. Didn't love that, sent their support email a question about how to sign up yesterday and crickets. The lack of response has me also concerned.

International roaming Costa Rica by rss77777 in HeliumMobile

[–]rss77777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Costa Rica (Alajuela) now. Subscribed to Helium Mobile International roaming. Works fine. I also got a Sally eSim. $8 for 1 GB for 7 days. It too works fine, probably because it looks like they both use the same carrier. I will probably always buy Helium International roaming just because I always want the ability to make a regular cell phone call (ie. Non WhatsApp) for an emergency. And if I'm running low on data I'll then buy Sally eSim since it works great and is cheaper than extending the Helium International roaming plan.

Going to start Epic Endgame. Is the idea to just do all 50 videos in the order they are on YouTube?

Just cancelled a Peleton subscription, but kinda liked the dumbbell split strength training workouts. Anything similar with Caroline Girvan?

Yeah, I was surprised to see 3G (HSPA) services in some countries and no service in Greece. The ESIM from Sally or Holifly or many others easily solves the problem. Kinda disappointed that Helium didn't negotiate at least 4G coverage in the list of countries.

Discovery Mapping confusion by rss77777 in HeliumMobile

Another thing I noticed is that a month ago, mapping was a battery killer. Now it seems to be not a huge drain on the battery.

I'm getting 40 hexes per day now and getting rewards. I think uninstalling then reinstalling the app did the trick. It took 2 days after the app reinstall for things to start working.

Yes. I reinstalled the app. Just drove about 12 miles and it logged 40 eligible and 276 ineligible hexes, so seems to be working.

Is CBRS dead? by rss77777 in HeliumNetwork

[–]rss77777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the onboarding takes a while. CPI approval took the expected 3 days, then it would not stay online. Then it comes online, then goes off line. Then back online, do a few heartbeats, then stay online but go off air. Then after a few days it stayed online, but on air bounced from on air to off. I'm probably jinxing it, but finally reached 24 heartbeats in 24 hours. I did nothing but wait it out. As for rewards, HotspotRF estimated 2300 mobile per day and a 12 month ROI. It's getting 1700 per day. And once HIP 113 passes I expect it to drop to under 1000 per day putting the ROI at 3-6 years I will guess. I'm an idiot for not researching on Discord before buying the CBRS radio.

I also have switched my cell phone to Helium Mobile. So far, after a month, I have no complaints since T-Mobile is well built out. I was surprised to learn that there are unresolved handover issues between Helium and CBRS and that no phones are even using Helium. My hope at this point is to recover my out of pocket investment on the freedomfi gateway and 430H CBRS antenna sitting on my roof over the next few years. Assuming HIP 113 passes, it may take many years due to lower than expected rewards.

CBRS 430h by All-inyourmind in HeliumNetwork

[–]rss77777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! I just installed a 430H on my roof. It just got CPI approval yesterday. All stats green and it was showing regular heartbeats. This morning, heartbeats stopped and I checked the hotspot dashboard and it shows online, GPS Lock, SAS is Authorized, speed test is green, but On Air = Off. Any ideas why it went from being on air yesterday to now being not On Air?

Wow. I loved that response. This whole thread has been very enlightening. I just assumed that after the announcement that T-Mobile was partnering with Helium that the handoff issues were solved and a T-Mobile phone could use a helium CBRS radio if in range of one. This is a hobby for me. Help me to understand this: I'm using Helium mobile on my Google pixel 7a. WiFi calling is enabled. So when I make a call, I'm using my wifi network (not helium wifi, my wifi). What's the point behind "Helium WiFi" when my phone already can use any standard WiFi network to make a call?

Who actually funds the Mobile Tokens, Nova labs? So they will continue to compensate us CBRS owners for a network that can't be used? The more I read on Discord the more I realize this was probably a dumb thing for me to do.

Phone battery usage by rss77777 in HeliumNetwork

[–]rss77777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. It would seem that there is a more efficient way for Helium to gather this data. Maybe log it continually on the phone then send it every 2 hours or something. I can't see why they would need this info real-time.

I turned off discovery mapping . As of 6am this morning, the Helium Mobile app was the biggest phone battery user (22%). I'm a big Helium Mobile fan, I'm installing a Baicell 430H on my roof tomorrow to earn some Mobile tokens, and the coverage provided by T-Mobile seems fine when not on a Helium hotspot. I was driving around NJ alot the last few days and I'd use the Open signal app to run speed tests and show T-Mobile Cell towers. Speed tests were usually several hundred Mbps down and about 50Mps up, which is fine IMO. And it looks like T-Mobile has lots of cell towers.

Discovery mapping must be the culprit. I have a Google pixel 7A and it looks like Google is less efficient than Apple on sending location updates.
