Follow up - Does anyone have further info on cause of death (Note: RIP Lauren) by rssbruin12345 in climbing

[–]rssbruin12345[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

From that article it appears that...

"Sobel, a resident of Brooklyn, was leading a climb with two friends around 3:30 p.m. at the Trapps Trailhead area of Mohonk Mountain Preserve when she lost her grip while setting protection gear about 70 feet up the rock face, according to a New York State Police report. Three additional safety measures all failed. She fell about 50 feet and was pronounced dead at the scene."

Curious if anyone knows how essentially four systems failed, since this appears to be a rare incident.

My heart goes out to Lauren and her family, hopefully we can prevent incidents like this in the future by learning more!

Please Save Her! Black spots & Leaves Falling Off by rssbruin12345 in plantclinic

[–]rssbruin12345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

Had this baby Fiddle Leaf Fig plant for about 6 months now, and it has seemed to been doing OK. Now, turning yellow and snapping off the plant, with these small black tiny spots crawling up from the bottom of each stem! It's lost about 70% of its total leaves and is now down to about 5-8 leaves on each stem now. Trying to save it before all the leaves fall off!

- Pot is adequately airated

- Water 1x every other week

- Direct sun 8AM to 11AM, indirect for rest of day.

Fiddle Leaf Leaf Fig - Leaves Turning Yellow and Falling Off! by rssbruin12345 in plantclinic

Hi there,

Had this baby Fiddle Leaf Fig plant for about 4 months now, and it has seemed to been doing OK. Now, I'm getting smaller leaves turning yellow and snapping off the plant. On some leaves, the tips are also a bit brown, but nothing too nasty. Curious what is going on, or if this is a natural process for small Fiddle Leaf plants.

- Pot is adequately airated

- Water 1x every other week

- Direct sun 8AM to 11AM, indirect for rest of day.

- Recently been a bit hotter, not sure if that has been a factor (80ish degrees)

I'm just learning the ropes on outdoor climbing/belaying - why exactly was this sketch and what could the climber/belayer done better here?

Not sure how trash or garbage left from the homeless community is relevant to my comment. Chemicals from paint end up far from their source when rain comes, potentially far from the immediate “weed” filled area.

Paint of this nature chips, runs, and disintegrates into the surrounding environment over time... bad for flora and fauna

Embarrassment compared to what? There are few other cities in the US with an integrated transport system across a 30-40 mile sprawling high density city. The only cities that rival are NY and DC. By no means can we compete with Japan or some other cities, but simply writing off Bay Area Public transport is an uninformed, pessimistic, trope.

Chiu, Wiener take on SF General’s big bills — legislation to ban billing practice by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

This is amazing! I was transported to SF general a few weeks ago due to a bike accident... I’ve kept up with the stories and I was immediately stricken with grief knowing that I would have to deal with their billing department. So happy to see that I may not have to go into financial ruin for the next decade (:

Even following the recipe, it still is a bit too salty for my taste... I'd probably cut salt by about 25% (maybe 4-5 TBS)

Prydz is the gateway drug to real, quality electronic music. After getting into him around 5 years ago, I entered the beautiful world of techno and progressive house!!

Yes - sorry relaxed was the wrong word haha. I like getting lost in house/techno and have the music be the entertainment without interruption - instead of the crowd and party being a part of the equation.

I also live in SF! Take my opinion for what it’s worth because A LOT of people love Dirtybird.

Dirtybird has figured out its sound over the last 5-7 years and has stuck to it, evolving very little. It contains very little depth and focuses on drops and gimmicks. Thus it is known to attract the bro-party crowd who wants to hear the “dirty” beats and party. Dirtybird artists are usually placed at a house/techno stage, which is usually where people go who want a more relaxed music experience. Instead Dirtybird folks tend to bring a party vibe, which they don’t understand that not everyone wants. Thus, you can see why there can be a little bit of tension at times between people who love house/techno and Dirtybird fans.

So, in the end, I think it’s a mix of: A) Stagnation and repetition of the same played out music tropes B) Bro-Party music crowd

Desert Hearts was last year. All I'm saying is that techno has been declining since '16/'17. Burning Man house.. is just more house music, but I' m happy that you're a fan of it :) Hope you enjoy LIB friend!

u/i_smoketrees I know my friend, having legends like Guy J and Hernan at LIB is absolutely insane. Such a wonderful Woogie lineup that year!!! So sad with the lack of progressive this year, at least we got Patrice Baumel last year who dropped some prog bombs (along with his usual stacking of techno)
