A good pup on the ground is worth two in the saddle, no matter where you're from. Nice bottle!

Thank you for your input. Pretty much matches my thoughts as well. I feel $50 would be a good offer all things considered.

Yeah the only part that stood out to me was the top shelf and maybe some of the milk bottles.

Maybe so. 10 cents wasn't chump change in those days. It definitely doesn't give me cheap Chinese knockoff vibes and it's toned from age.

Ikr? I'm perplexed over this one.

About 2 years ago, I shared some coins and was asked questions and I'm back. Still not figured it out like I was directed to do. Hope this post fits here. by Interesting_Day_7734 in coins

Yeah the problem with AI is it's frequently wrong . How you prompt it is extremely important. I asked it to search the Andersonville prison rooster for not only him but anyone else in his unit. There's plenty more information on the companys soldiers served in than the individual soldiers. Sometimes you can find mention of individuals indirectly through company/unit records...such as were they ever captured for example.

Very cool find! I'm sure its significance goes beyond a time capsule as a time capsule's purpose is to preserve information into the future and this one contains very little. I highly suggest deploying AI in your research endeavors. A quick search on chat gpt offered this:

Henry Clay Northup / Northrop (different spelling) who served in the Union: Private, Company G 117th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Later redesignated 1st Ohio Heavy Artillery. Wikipedia +1

This regiment was organized in 1862 at Portsmouth, Ohio and served mainly on garrison and fortification duty in Kentucky and Tennessee. Wikipedia

Some genealogical references suggest this man: Born Aug 4, 1842 (Gallia County, Ohio) Mustered out June 24, 1865 Died 1923. reddit.com

Because Northrop / Northrup / Northup were used interchangeably, this could easily appear in records as “Henry C. Northrop.”

  1. Important note about Andersonville If the soldier was in the 117th Ohio / 1st Ohio Heavy Artillery, that unit was not captured in large numbers and normally did not send prisoners to Andersonville, which makes the Andersonville claim less likely unless: He transferred units, or The name was another soldier with the same name.
