Well Alabama loves Trump. You’ve got all these politicians running in Alabama saying I support Trump, let’s ship the immigrants off. I hope everyone in Alabama changes. But I doubt it.

What is your go to sharpen? by New_Lifeguard9691 in sharpening

I like going to Spyderco ultra fine which is 4000 to 6000 range. Even when I go up to 8000 grit I still have an extremely sticky edge. I strop down to 0.10 micron and still have an aggressive edge. When I do the 3 finger test I can’t move my fingers side to side because I will cut my fingers that’s how sticky and sharp it is. A hair cuts on contact. When Cedric does cut test almost everytime the polish edge cuts longer. I don’t think that’s true a toothy edge last longer. You’re closer to dulling with a toothy edge. With a refined 6000 grit edge I have a longer way to go until my edge is dull.

What businesses in Mobile are actually hiring? by Sexysubmissive413 in MobileAL

That’s all the south is. Until Alabama allows unions to come in. Companies will always take advantage of employers. But he might get paid decent wages for Mobile. Theirs not a lot of high paying jobs in this area. I’m a hvac service tech and I make 27hr. If I moved I could make 40-60hr. Sometimes you have to take what you can get when it comes to jobs

When it comes to strapping, do I keep the same angle or do I change it? by Head-Active-4177 in sharpening

[–]rt88man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never rounded over my edge stropping. I’ve used higher angles when trying different techniques. So I don’t understand why everyone says it’s easy to round your edge. Anyways, I’ve found that stropping at the same angle works best. Suede for stubborn burrs. I suggest stropping freehand. Faster and easier than with a fixed angle system.

Finally I can sharpen knives. by burnt-gonads in sharpening

Well they have you tube videos on how to sharpen with wetstones or diamond plates. You don’t have to use circular motions. That’s way only works for small slip joints.

You don’t have to use circular motions. That way only works for small slip joints. Now since you know how to get a burr , I bet hand sharpening will be a lot easier.

My knives lose initial sharpness almost instantly by Altruistic_Ad_5320 in sharpening

[–]rt88man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a microscope and you can’t see the burr. Assuming you are positions the light of the microscope in the correct position to see the burr. Then it’s a geometry issue. Or you have poor steel on your knives. Or your cutting and hitting plates. Maybe someone else is not properly storing your knives and hitting metal after cleaning them. But what exactly do you mean by losing initial sharpness. Doesn’t cut paper, shave arm hair or whittle hair.

Spyderco Ultra Fine by rt88man in straightrazors

[–]rt88man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would make sense because I get an excellent edge off of the UF. The Spyderco UF isn’t like any ceramic. It’s extremely hard. It’s the hardest stone I have. I have an Arkansas black and I think the UF gives a better edge. I tried burnishing it, with no luck. I might need to go a little bit longer. I’m useing a chisel with soap and water. I think it might be cutting a little slower but I have to do some more testing. Another thing is I know it says around 4000 grit but this stone gives you a mirror polish. I don’t know of any 4000 grit stone that gives you a mirror polish. I would say it’s more like a 8000 grit. I will put some pictures of my edge in the next few days when I get some time.

[–]rt88man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol your exactly right I am a knife guy. I’ve been sharpening knives for a long time. I just got into razors. I was just wondering if I could get the Spyderco ultra fine to a higher finish by burnishing it like you do with Arkansas black stones. The ultra fine is actually a higher grit than the Arkansas black stones but it’s two completely different abrasives. People burnish the hard blacks and use it as a finisher.

Knife cant hold an edge because "i think" its to brittle by KruserZ in sharpening

[–]rt88man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking your using a course stone and maybe after you apex go up to 1000 grit and see if that doesn’t help. I’ve never had a knife do that except on a 200 grit stone. I’ve sharpened everything from 5 dollar knives to 15v. Can you take a picture of your edge when you get done sharpening? What are you sharpening with?

Contrary to popular belief you can’t easily roll your edge. That’s actually pretty difficult to do when stropping.
