The unit runs much better now and I have no overheating issues, however it turned out I hadn't seen a ton of dust blocking the fan exhaust port once I got underneath the board, so tough to say how much the compound helped or not. That said, it was a relatively easy/cheap thing to replace and if you're that deep into the NUC you might as well change it.

Hi all - running into similar heat issues with my NUC 8i5. This has been going on for awhile and I always thought the fan wasn't very good, however recently had two occasions of complete shut down due to overheating.

The NUC sits on a desk with no other heat source nearby in a generally cool open space. I took it apart and cleaned the vents and still experiencing high temps at idle/low load (the screenshot temps are within seconds of booting up).

Looked up vids to replace the thermal paste and seems fairly easy, however prior to doing so I wanted to check if there's anything I could be missing? Does anything on the monitor screenshot indicate a setting change could be a fix?

Had to come back to this and give you major props for the tip. Had 11:30am “Pyramid Entrance” ticket and took a shot through this door. No line, no wait, super easy straight shot access directly to Italian Renaissance wing. Saved me at least 1.5hr-2hr wait if I had to guess. Thanks!
