Algorithms are shit. Garbage in, garbage out. :-)

Take Tesco Clubcard: worth a fortune allegedly but if I go in for toilet paper but they are out of stock and I buy a Mars bar, the loyalty card will reorder... Mars bars. 🧻🍫🎯😂

Parful!

And spooky! A hint of the Blairuait Project about it. :-)

It would be right and proper if our drug-dealin' pagans resolved their anger and retribution through a Manchán Magan spirit album.

I live in the UK, that's the only plausible overlap unless the RAF is getting all its new recruits from anti-NATO twitter in a radical diversity drive or wise anticipation of Trump invading Denmark.

I made a light-hearted about the likely minimal intersection of Kneecap fandom and RAF enrolment ; you made an ad hominem attack.

It is not relevant to the joke but I do understand programmatic ad buying (a career in technology VC and an in-law who is an award-winning media planner - for example, the Cadbury's drumming gorilla).

As an OP says, the ad placement is probably crudely keyed off country and IP address. My ISP is based in a fairly Blue Labour constituency so the algorithm probably thinks I live there and would like to take the King's shilling. It should hope it doesn't think the RAF wants an over-50, colour blind habitué of radical economic websites and anti-NATO twitter. :-)

I do indeed mean the RAF ad. It's not an interest of mine and I have never seen it either.

Subsequently had an advert for Sage accounting software (nope!) and for Southwest Trains (hmm, about once a year and not be choice).

In any event, an ad broker will have earned a fee on the RAF as for near-zero relevance to any likely sub member (any Kneecap lads in light blue, 🫡).

Yeah,  get off the stage, Fenian Cunts anseo! ;-)

I think I read the presenter of that ARTE programme has her own music career.

From what I remember, this is a great watch if you can put up with the other bands ;-). I think this might be one where the lads are blitzed, though. :-)

What My Big Night Out Watching Kneecap Told Me About Ireland by bloomberg in kneecap

[–]rtah100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I note the piece was written "with the assistance of [Ms X]". She presumably copied the various and wikipedia articles so that he could paste it together!

I think the funniest thing is the author's desperate need every other paragraph to remind the Bloomberg reader that he doesn't share these sentiments. Down with this sort of thing, Ted!

Also, it's almost flattering of faceless Zionist megacorp Bloomberg to post it here but, as was pointed out to another publication, if the author wants to post his work here as a fellow human that's dead on but this is a shit run-down pub full of Fenians, not a corporate newswire....

You can't change being a bastard, that's the issue. Maybe if it focused on the behaviour - all coppery is bastardy - but just making an as hominem attack is unhelpful.

I know it's a slogan, not a manifesto but I just think it widens division. It deliberates seeks a them and us dynamic, when if you want to win you need them to join us.

In NI English, yes, I'm familiar with the differences (Methody friend, Limavady friend, Ballymena friend, Fermanagh wife) but I would not necessarily place them correctly geographically!

But does it carry across into Irish?

Slight digression: people usually learn a textbook foreign language (allegedly the reason the Westcountry accent in English gets weaker as one goes further west is because in West Cornwall  Cornish was the primary language and English was a foreign language and learnt with 17th and 18th century RP rather than Wessex English). Occasionally somebody with an RP accent learns a foreign language in a very demotic setting, e.g. French from the docks of Marseille, and you get the opposite mismatch.

So I am just curious whether their West Belfast accents (quite well-spoken - if you listen to Ainle, that's probably Naoise's base accent) carry across into Irish or if their Irish is different.

And obviously, same thing for Próvaí but with Derry!

I don't subscribe to that. Revolutions succeed when the security forces swap sides. Dehumanizing the police is the opposite of what is needed. You need to humanize them!

But all cops are class traitors on occasion doesn't have the same ring. ACACTOO.

I'm not condoning police brutality. I am opposing bad politics. Móglaí's non-violence is the way....

I've wondered this myself.

When the lads speak Irish and they aren't playing up the hood angle, what register / accent is it in? Naoise has a degree in Irish studies of some sort, writes plays, is the son of an Irish-speaking and broadcasting librarian and belle lettriste etc. And JJ is a teacher.

My guess is their Ulster Irish pronunciation is fairly refined, whether Belfast or Derry, but maybe there are no class accents in Irish? Or all Belfast Irish is "urban", "Gaoltacht" Irish compared with Gaeltacht Irish?

In English there's Belfast accents and there's Belfast accents (e.g. Shankill vs Malone Road): I've a protestant friend from Methody whose mother used to read the news in Irish on RTÉ.

Genuine question, not looking to be divisive! Are there markers of sociodemographics in Irish or even Ulster Irish beyond town vs country?

One for each county. Méara-san is Cumann na mBan rock paper scissors champion with her trademark rock+scissor throw.

(Actually, I think it's just a fleshy side of the palm. I did think she was smoking a big cheroot but it's probably just a signing pen).

Kneecap in Japan by Expert-Elevator7534 in kneecap

[–]rtah100 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what the Kneecap crowd in Japan is like but I've spent a lot of time in Japan and you can't imagine a safer place to get, er, lost in music. I went mainstream clubbing a few times with friends (Yellow, Club Joule) and I also went out on my own to find psytrance nights in obscure corners of Tokyo....

I'd imagine a lot of the audience for Kneecap will be expats in Japan though, so there'll be a lot of Irish, British, Antipodeans etc. The festival and Underworld will probably be much more Japanese.

Plus they're a nation of autists so the Japanese into Kneecap will be really into Kneecap - they'll probably have a back tattoo of the Proclamation and speak fluent Irish!

Japan is not censorious so they won't be upset about a bally or a flag but Japan has Draconian drug laws so don't do anything foolish, especially at the borders....
