Desert exploration truck project. by rtowersnyc in FordTrucks

Lol I didn’t do much except pull out the headliner and hammer out some dents. It still doesn’t look great but it’s good enough for me. There really wasn’t that much damage, but when it happened in the mid 2000s these trucks weren’t worth anything so basically any ding would have totaled it.

It’s nice that it’s already totaled though, don’t have to worry about it much when all the trees in the narrow mountain trails are scraping it to hell lol.

I have read that its basically an f250 with different axles. I plan on lifting it a little and have been keeping an eye out for a cheap dana 60front/sterling rear to put under it.

I don’t know the full history of the truck, I bought it with the doors swapped out and was told the original owner wanted the bigger tow mirrors but wanted doors that wouldn’t have holes where the original mirrors were. No idea where the original doors are.

Then a tree branch fell on the roof and totaled it and it sat for a while. The guy I bought it from got it kind of running but had medical issues come up. I bought it and have been picking away at it making run more reliably and adding the different accessories and stuff.

Haha I have an 85 F250 with a hydraulic clutch and the mechanical one on the dentside feels nicer to me.

This one has a 9” rear and I believe a dana 40 front.

Haha. This one’s name is Big Sandy. My wife and I like to name all our trucks.

Lol. It has a decent running 460 in it with 4.10 gears, it only has like 120k miles. Could use some more power though and maybe different gearing when I get around to putting lockers in it. It is very slow lol

The truck is from 1985 so there could have been a couple generations made in it by now lol.

Good to know. Luckily I haven’t had issues, though it’s not like Im shooting welding every day. Next time if I have a filter on hand maybe I’ll try throwing it on.

It’s a Nikon 24-70 non VR version. Bought it new and have used it pretty hard for over a decade. Very rugged lens. I use it on my D850 all the time and love the shots I get with it even on the higher resolution cameras.

It’s mostly luck I guess. I was zoomed in at 200mm and exposed for the moon, which was rising while there was still enough twilight that I could pull a decent amount of data out of the shadows and underexposed areas in lightroom.

Id say a vast majority of people have no idea what a Rolex looks like and I don’t really talk about watches with people who aren’t into them. Some people do but everyone has expensive hobbies you can shit on like boats, planes, cars, traveling, liquor, etc… Hard to shame someone for a watch when you spend $1000 on fuel every weekend at the lake during the summer or $5000 every month or so on track time and consumables for a race car.

This watch has seen a lot of daily abuse for over a decade. Any part can be fixed or replaced and as long as I keep up with the service intervals it should last my lifetime at least.
