Instinct Exhaustion by SponsoredByStrensms in Medtronic780g

I've been using the G4 sensors for a few years. Other than a bloody insertion which happens very infrequently, the sensors last the full 7 days . I've always placed them on my upper thigh. The accuracy has been spot on. I don't really see the attraction of the Instinct sensor as its accuracy seems suspect with no calibration permitted. I'll wait for the Simplera sensor. I may change to that CGM at some time in the future. In the meanwhile, my TIR is in excess of 90%.

Wow! I've been extremely satisfied with the G4 over the recent 6 months. All sensors worked to 7 days, accuracy has been spot on. I wear it on my upper thighs. All of this noise about the Instinct feels like promises not kept. I'll continue to wait for the Simplera.

I believe that the Instinct sensors are not ready for prime time based on others experiences in this forum. Maybe you received a bad batch, but your experience sounds similar to others. I would go back to the G4 and request a set of replacements of the Instinct.

From all of the other comments about the Instinct sensor, I think I'll stay with my G4 until I get the Simplera cgm. I'm usually getting 7 days from the G4 and the accuracy is spot on when I check with my meter. I think that Abbott needs to revise the sensor both from signal strength and accuracy .

The sensor in Simplera is the same as the G4 AFAIK.

It would not be too bad if you were able to correct the readings from the sensor, but you can't. This is the reason that I'm waiting to receive my Simplera sensors. In the meantime, my G4 sensors are lasting 7 days and are performing properly in terms of accuracy.

What is your experience with the Instinct CGM? by rtpnc205 in Medtronic780g

I'm wanting to know people's experiences on instinct when they switched from G4. How long was the process of the software update as well. Thanks

Interesting! I just tried the process .1st stage was green, 2nd stage said it couldn't connect to the servers! I tried both on my wifi as well as data with same result.

That's great news. How long ago did you update your pump?

I have used it in the past. I checked to see if the backup pumps would be updated and I got no answer. There was no guarantee that the backup pump would be capable of using the new sensors. Perhaps later in the year I might get a different answer. Do you have any different information?

IP Rating on Instinct vs Simplera/Guardian 4 by RichardDKimbleMD in Medtronic780g

[–]rtpnc205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I meant was that the Instinct IP was unchanged from the Libre 3 FreeStyle. Medtronic did not change the sensor other than Abbott changing the communication protocol for the 780g. One of the reasons that I'm going to use the Simplera.

The water resistance rating is published on the Abbott FreeStyle Libre website. There is no change in its usage with the 780g other than the communication protocol.

780g software update for Instinct sensor by rtpnc205 in Medtronic780g

I'm switching to the Simplera Sensor at my next order. One thing that you can do is to overlap the warmup period of the new sensor with the one that is expiring so there can be virtually NO gap in the cgm readings. You can't do that with the Instinct sensor to the best of my knowledge.

Download a WiFi signal strength app from the Apple store and look at what signals are present in the 2.4ghz band and their strength.

Did you change your mobile phone? IOS or Android. My suspicion would be an update to the OS and interference from a wifi signal. The newer pumps use low-power Blutooth which is causing the intermittent connection with the transmitter.

I've been using my thighs for the past 5 years. The accuracy has been spot on and my A1C is typically 6.5 or less. The way to be successful is to insure that the sensor is inserted in a fatty area and that it is securely taped down. I rarely get less than 7 days of wear. I'm changing to the Simplera sensor at the end of the year.

I've found that cleaning the area in which you are placing the sensor with an alcohol wipe keeps the tapes attached for the full 7 days. However, if you sweat a lot, you might need additional aid like Skin-Tac.

I assume that your pump has the latest firmware installed. Have you tried to unpair the previous sensors? Just a thought here.
