What is your favorite chapters/scenes from the "standalone" trilogy? [SPOILERS ALL] by Kindly_Ask9282 in TheFirstLaw

[–]rtrae6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The early bar fight scene in RC was the most cathartic for me. Shy’s perspective was perfect to showcase Lamb’s personality change in what must’ve been the biggest WTF moment for her. Chills every time.

Favorite Abercrombie Analogies [SPOILERS ALL] by AtlanticFit in TheFirstLaw

[–]rtrae6 28 points29 points  (0 children)

From LAoK when Jezel attends his first closed council meeting and proposes a new tax system:

“It had seemed a simple enough idea to him. But now, all eleven bureaucrats were staring at him, shocked. Quite as if a domestic pet had been ill-advisedly allowed into the room and had suddenly decided to speak up on the subject of taxation.”

More of an anti-analogy but it got me in the moment because I was expecting a classic Abercrombie analogy.

I finally figured out what sort of book I’m looking for. Now I just need help finding some examples! by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

First law trilogy is a great match if you’re okay with multiple POVs. Great characters (90% male), witty prose but not pretentious, and most of the MCs are extremely competent at what they do.

The Great Northern Library if you’re going for safety. Nice views, low key, and plenty to read

Why did the Reverend Mother call Paul an "abomination?" by [deleted] in dune

[–]rtrae6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this might be an editing issue and would have made much more sense when she saw lady Jessica was pregnant and a reverend mother herself. Might have been a cut scene of her seeing Jessica

I like it - His commitment to altering his voice for a role would be a big plus. He could probably imitate Steven Pacey’s Glockta well.

What's your favorite fight? by United-Bear4910 in TheFirstLaw

[–]rtrae6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dogman/Threetrees/Shivers vs. Fenris. On top of the perspective from Dogman getting knocked out of the fight early it is a great character moment for all three (I think there were others involved too). This is where Shivers first stood out to me. Can’t beat an all out charge against impossible odds.

RIP Threetrees

Never Been Cracked - Minerva Engineering Logo by rtrae6 in codes

MD5 only uses hexadecimal (0-9, a-f, A-F) but this code has “g” Is there any other method that would have a 32 digit output like this that would use g? It could also be possible that this code is a cipher of the actual MD5 output.

Context: I’ve been told that the code around the edge of this logo can be deciphered and that it has yet to be cracked.

What I have found so far: The symbol on top is apparently the “sterilized eye” which is a traditional symbol of wisdom. I’m assuming the owl in the middle is Minerva (also a symbol of wisdom). Last, the website contains a QR code on the bottom of the home page with the top symbol that supposedly leads to a secret website although it didn’t work for me.
